Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Western Cape, City of Cape Town, Somerset West
Job Type: 24 monthContract, Full-Time
Job Duties:
- The consultant shall provide comprehensive cost management and quantity surveying services across all phases of the project lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
- Cost Estimation & Quantity Surveying
- Develop and maintain detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities (BOQs) for
each site.
- Review construction plans and specifications to prepare accurate quantity takeoffs.
- Identify discrepancies between BOQs, drawings, specifications, and contract
conditions, and resolve them effectively.
- Cost Control & Financial Monitoring
- Monitor and control project costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities and
conducting value engineering assessments.
- Track expenditures and provide monthly cost reports, including CPI (Cost
Performance Index) and SPI (Schedule Performance Index) calculations.
- Conduct weekly expenditure tracking and variance analysis.
- Contract Administration
- Support the preparation, evaluation, and administration of tender
documentation.
- Manage interim and final valuations, variations, and claims.
- Assist in final account preparation and close-out documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, site managers, and internal stakeholders to
ensure alignment and effective communication.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and the design team to optimize project outcomes and achieve value for money.
- Provide expert advice on procurement strategies, risk management, and cost
optimization.
- Site & Design Coordination
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and ensure financial objectives are met.
- Coordinate with the design team to analyze architectural and service drawings.
- Document design changes and update budgets accordingly.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports, analyses, budgets, contracts, and
risk assessments.
- Advise managers and clients on strategic improvements and cost-effective
solutions.
- Ensure timely ordering and tracking of materials as required.
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in infrastructure projects, preferably multi-site.
- Registration with SACQSP or equivalent professional body preferred.
- Strong knowledge of public and private sector procurement and financial reporting
- Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., SAP)
- Experience working with AutoCAD and validating quantities from the given drawings.
- Experience with building information modelling (BIM) and quantity takeoff software
