Purpose of the role

This position reports to the Boiler’s Maintenance Foreman and will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the preparation, execution and completion of all Mechanical applications relating to the repair or maintenance and installations of complex and integrated mechanical equipment and, attends to the supervision of trade artisans, maintenance workers and contract workers on project works and administrative processes relating to the development of task lists, completion of work permits, generating ‘Bills of Materials” and pricing for scheduled works.

Top Accountabilities

1.   PLANNING AND CO-ORDINATION

1.1.   Interacting with the Boiler Mechanical Foreman on the findings from inspections and investigations on the condition and reliability of machinery in the boilers department.

1.2.   Generating scope of work for projects and non-routine maintenance works.

1.3.   Generating Bills of Materials and pricing and submitting to the Mechanical Foreman for verification and approval.

1.4.    Developing task lists for Boiler’s mechanical works and consults with the Boiler’s Mechanical Foreman and provides inputs into labour resourcing, time and costs.

1.5.   Conducting stand by duties and overseeing and implementing preventative or corrective actions to mitigate risks or address operational issues or the occurrence of disasters e.g. fire.

                

2.    SUPERVISION AND CONTROL

2.1.   Allocating Artisans or Maintenance Workers against specific job cards and monitors conduct and performance and implements corrective measures to align behaviours and activities.

2.2.    Identifying training needs and proposing specific training interventions to improve skills and capabilities.

2.3.   Training, coaching and mentoring subordinates on the application and execution of root cause analysis, fault finding, trouble shooting, problem solving, repair and maintenance procedures.

2.4.   Applying the disciplinary procedures to verbally counsel employees in breach of specific disciplinary codes and referring serious deviations to the Fabrication Foreman for further disciplinary action.

2.5.   Monitoring time and attendance and addressing occurrences of repeated late coming, absence without leave, etc. with the relevant employee with a view to creating awareness on the company procedure and correcting the behaviour.

2.6.   Attending to requests for leave and confirming the availability of resources prior to submitting to the Fabrication Foreman for approval.

                

3.    HEALTH AND SAFETY PROCEDURES AND SYSTEMS

3.1.   Monitors the application of the OSH Act with respect to safe work practices during the execution of works i.e. PPE, checklists, site safety inspections, etc.)

3.2.   Attends to the administrative requirements relating to the completion of general work permits and obtaining signatures of Artisans.

3.3.   Providing guidelines to Maintenance Workers on the completion of Risk Assessment Forms and proceeding to authorise completed forms.

3.4.    Conducting inspections during the execution of works to assess and establish personnel or Contractors are adhering to Health and Safety rules and intervening and correcting or reporting deviations to the Mechanical Foremen.

3.5.   Attending the SHE meetings and participating in discussions relating to non-conformances, corrective measures and concerns and informing the Mechanical Foreman on actions requiring urgent attention.

                

4.    WORKS ADMINISTRATIVE APPLICATIONS

4.1.   Attending to the preparation, completion and/ or approval of permits for contract works and maintenance works.

4.2.   Collating works orders/ job cards and, capturing/ updating and/ or extracting information from the maintenance system on timing, materials and people utilisation for submission to the Foreman.

4.3.   Completing requisition orders for spares, tools and parts or services and submitting to the Foreman for approval.

4.4.   Collating and submitting inspection schedules to the Foreman for further verification and following up on outstanding information required to close-out schedules as indicated by the Foreman.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matriculation Certification and Trade Test (N3) Mechanical qualification
  • At least 3 years’ experience with exposure to supervision and maintenance administrative applications.
  • Computer skills/literacy in MS Office Suite
  • Proficient with SAP system particularly with the Maintenance Module.
  • Project Management Skills
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to present quality, reliable and factual results.
