We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer: Transmission Substations to join our clients growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact energy projects that shape Africa’s sustainable future.

Role Purpose

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design, management, and optimisation of transmission and substation systems that transport high-voltage electricity from generation to distribution. You will oversee all aspects of project delivery — from concept design and procurement through to construction and commissioning — ensuring engineering excellence, technical integrity, and on-time execution.

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc/BEng/BTech in Electrical Engineering (essential).
• ECSA Professional Registration (PrEng or PrTech), or eligibility for registration.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in:
  • Electrical transmission and substation design.
  • Procurement and commissioning of electrical plant and equipment for major infrastructure projects.
  • HV and EHV transmission design and substation construction.
• Experience in substation commissioning will be a strong advantage.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/MicroStation, CDEGS, ETAP, DIgSILENT, or related substation software.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional, cross-regional teams with a focus on technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and delivery of transmission and substation projects.
• Develop and manage project cost estimates, including materials, labour, and equipment.
• Oversee supplier design and delivery packages to ensure compliance with specifications, budgets, and timelines.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
• Review and approve design drawings, specifications, and inspection reports.
• Identify and implement value engineering and design optimisation opportunities.
• Manage supplier performance, conduct progress meetings, and ensure adherence to quality and HSE standards.
• Proactively mitigate risks, resolve project delays, and report on progress and performance.
• Collaborate closely with Quality teams to ensure timely inspections and compliance with corrective actions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
