ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Head of Content & Editorial defines and protects the voice, storytelling, and content direction of &Beyond across editorial channels and content platforms. This role leads a multidisciplinary content team, ensuring that all editorial communications (including Bateleur magazine, editorial EDMs, blogs, social media content and other owned storytelling platforms) reflects the depth, clarity, and distinctiveness of the brand. It connects strategy, creation, operations, and delivery into one cohesive system.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy
- Define and evolve global content strategy including:
- In-house editorial video
- User generated content strategy (WILDwatch sightings)
- Bateleur magazine strategy
- Define and evolve group editorial communications strategy including:
- Strategic oversight of the social media strategy, with day-to-day development, implementation and optimisation led by the Content Strategist
- Editorial EDM strategy
- Own and protect brand voice across all channels through co-chairing the Brand Creative Committee alongside the Brand Campaign Strategist
- Partner with the Head of Brand & Campaigns and Group Creative Lead to ensure full alignment between narrative, creative direction and visual execution.
- Participate in a monthly Influencer Committee responsible for the co-development and oversight of the influencer strategy, comprising the Group Brand Manager, Group PR and B2B Marketing Manager, Group Creative Lead, and Content Strategist
Management Activities
- Oversee and approve campaign content plans from concept to publication including review and approval of social media scheduling and editorial EDMs
- Align editorial planning with campaigns and business priorities
- Lead and mentor content team (Content Strategist, Content Operations Coordinator, Social Media Specialist, Copywriter) – including
- Performance reviews and management
- Leave approval
- Expense claim approval
- Salary reviews
- Oversight of, and where necessary, participation in social media champions training and regular meetings with Social Media Specialist and Inkwazi / Guide training with Content Strategist
- Collaborate with Brand, Regional, Digital and PR teams
- Drive continuous improvement through performance insights and the submission of quarterly board reports and weekly metric updates
- Budgeting and forecasting responsibility for editorial content generation and distribution
Content Creation Activities
- Source, manage and guide contributors (guides, freelancers, agencies, influencers)
- Writing and editing editorial EDMs as per the strategy
- Content creation to fill gaps in video, social media or written articles in campaign plans including briefing longer form video production
- Travel to capture content in-region where required
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’S)

CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 10+ years of editorial and/or content production (magazine, documentaries etc.) experience with a strong portfolio
- Degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field
- Excellent writing, editing and editorial judgement skills
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Ability to balance creativity with business objectives
- Operationally strong with process thinking
- Excellent communicator and collaborator
- Passion for conservation and meaningful storytelling
- Experience within luxury travel, hospitality, lifestyle or travel media strongly preferred
