Our client is looking for a Senior Specialist - Geometallurgy & Process Mineralogy to join their team.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and execute accountabilities of legal appointment under Zambian Mining Regulations.
  • Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the section.
  • Manage and operate the mineralogy and geometallurgy laboratory.
  • Consistently deliver and exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) by providing insight and guidance on plant feed characteristics and plant performance through studying modes of mineral losses.
  • Participate daily to monthly in processing plant activities, serving as technical support to operations personnel to enhance performance.
  • Lead the Geometallurgical program concerning ore quality, plant behavior, blending plans, and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Mine Engineering departments (Geology, Planning, Mining), Processing, and Environment to define optimal strategies for metal production.
  • Manage interaction between Processing and Mining Technical Services on ore quality, blending plans, and performance.
  • Define a practical Process Mineralogy approach to maximize metal production while maintaining high concentrate quality.
  • Implement innovative solutions to improve site mineralogy and geometallurgy programs.
  • Coordinate and manage studies for future ore deposits at Sentinel and Enterprise.
  • Ensure strong integration and alignment of technical activities with Plant Metallurgists (Comminution & Flotation) and Operation teams.

Key Skills:

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize our client's Group framework for Geometallurgy to integrate key geometallurgical attributes for predictable extraction.
  • Identify potential improvements through the analysis of mineralogical data trends.
  • Maintain an exhaustive and up-to-date database of all projects.
  • Work independently to seek continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate technical interactions between sections to ensure efficient delivery to customer requirements.
  • Regularly interact with the Perth Mining office.
  • Maintain staff development plans, succession plans, and training programs, emphasizing skills transfer and coaching.
  • Facilitate data acquisition, warehousing, accessibility, distribution, and analytics.
  • Control and reduce operational costs by reviewing laboratory equipment and developing justifications for capital projects.
  • Contribute to the annual Technical session budget.
  • Implement our client's culture.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent Technical or Process Management.
  • Direct experience in mineral extraction/engineering technical roles, particularly in base metal grinding and flotation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Metallurgist, Production Geologist, or in an equivalent leadership role in large, complex mineral process operations.
  • Extensive experience in Mineralogy and Geometallurgy.
  • A Post-Graduate Qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Geometallurgy, or Geology.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and to hold relevant legal appointments as defined by the Mining Regulations of Zambia.
