GROUP CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO) – Bryanston (Jhb)

A leading Energy Group is seeking a strategic and operational Group CFO to lead the finance function across all entities.

Main Purpose of the Role:
The Group CFO will be accountable for group-wide financial performance, governance, and capital management, ensuring alignment across all regional subsidiaries. The role will support the CEO and Board in managing investor relations, capital raising, and group structuring while overseeing consolidated reporting, risk management, and digital finance systems integration.
Role reports to: Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with 4 direct reports (Finance Manager x2, Chief Investment/Risk Officer, IT Specialist/Developer) and indirect reports (Country Finance Managers / Accountants)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Drive financial strategy, capital planning and liquidity management across all entities and regions.
- Support the CEO in investor reporting, fundraising (debt and equity), and institutional capital structuring.
- Oversee financial due diligence, group restructuring, and new market entry assessments.
- Develop and maintain robust group forecasting, budgeting, and performance models (including FX, CPI, and multi-currency mechanisms).
Leadership & People
- Lead and develop the finance and systems teams across the Group.
- Support and mentor in-country finance staff via a dotted-line relationship.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Commercial teams to align financial insight with business outcomes.
Group Financial Management
- Ensure accuracy, integrity and timeous availability of all group financial reporting, consolidations, and management accounts.
- Oversee both the entities accounting, treasury, and controls functions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, audit, and tax requirements across all operating jurisdictions.
- Implement consistent policies for procurement, asset capitalization, revenue recognition, and cost allocation.
- Oversee working capital management and intercompany funding flows.
Systems, Data & Reporting Oversight
- Oversee the IT Specialist and ensure digital finance infrastructure (NAV/Business Central, Monday.com, AMMP, Power BI) supports accurate, real-time reporting.
- Drive automation and reporting improvements to enhance decision-making, audit readiness and investor transparency.
- Ensure alignment between operational data and financial results across all business units.
Risk, Governance & Compliance
- Implement and monitor group-wide financial risk management, including FX exposure, liquidity and credit risk.
- Ensure internal controls, policies, and delegations of authority are effective and consistently applied across all countries.
- Liaise with external auditors, banks, insurers, and tax advisors.
- Support corporate governance processes at Board and Investment Committee levels.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience required
- CA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 8 years post-articles experience, including at least 4 years in a senior financial leadership role
- Proven track record in leading end-to-end finance functions, including accounting, reporting, treasury, budgeting, and funding operations across manufacturing, engineering, construction and operational businesses
- Experience in multi-currency, cross-border, and asset-based operations
- Board-facing CFO experience with strategic input into capital structuring, investor relations, and financial decision-making
- Strong capital structuring, cashflow optimization, and digital finance expertise, including management of finance systems and analytics platforms
