We are currently recruiting for an AWS DevOps Engineer to join our small dynamic team of cloud specialists. Fully remote opportunity, so you can be based anywhere, altough prefence would be Western Cape.  

As an AWS Cloud/DevOps Engineer you will be working with the engineering team and focusing on AWS infrastructure management and automation. A key part of the role is championing and leading infrastructure as code.  You will work closely with the head of Managed Service, Software development and Architecture to build, manage and automate our customers AWS infrastructure. You need to have passion in improving the lives of everyone we touch through technology and our engineering ability, and be dedicated and ambitious to driving value to our customers. You will be responsible for managing juniors in the team. You will create and monitor the progress of their tasks and provide guidance where necessary.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's in computer science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study (IT experience can substitute for a BSc degree)
  2. AWS Developer, AWS SysOps or AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification
  3. Demonstrated project development and leadership skills
  4. Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures
  5. Experience with software engineering, customer experience and civil engineering preferred
  6. Experience working together with teams from several departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan
  7. Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various operating systems and their implications
  8. Professional work experience in team building and project organization

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Design cloud infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and highly available on AWS
  2. Work collaboratively with software engineering to define infrastructure and deployment requirements
  3. Provision, configure and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure defined as code
  4. Ensure configuration and compliance with configuration management tools
  5. Administer and troubleshoot Linux based systems
  6. Troubleshoot problems across a wide array of services and functional areas
  7. Build and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of AWS infrastructure and systems
  8. Perform infrastructure cost analysis and optimization.

Hard Skills:

  1. Hands-On experience with AWS & Cloud stacks is must: VPC / Public & Private Subnet / Load Balancer / Nat Gateway / Internet Gateway / AWS Database Setup / Cloud Watch / EC2 /  IAM / ECS / EKS CodeDeploy / CloudFront / S3) etc.
  2. Source control (like Git, Bitbucket, CodeCommit, etc.)
  3. Database technologies such as MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB etc. (2+ years)
  4. Continuous integration (like Jenkins, Bamboo, weaveworks)
  5. Infrastructure automation (like Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation)
  6. Experience with Docker/Kubernetes
  7. Solid foundation of networking and Linux administration
  8. Scripting Bash, YAML/JSON and knowing at least one major programming language (Java, C#, Python, Ruby etc.)
  9. Ability to learn/use a wide variety of open-source technologies and tools
  10. Experience with aspects of DevOps (including CICD using AWS Services)
  11. Strong understanding of how to secure AWS environments and meet compliance requirements
  12. Good exposure & some experience with Java / Microservices / Camunda / Hibernate / Webservices (Soap & Rest) / Maven / ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) etc.
