Main Purpose of the Job

Achieve agreed production and maintenance plans and budgets in line with the Company Business plan.

Continually seek to improve operational and mechanical maintenance methods and techniques.

Maintain close relationship with the Factory operational sections to ensure Steam & Power Generation services are being rendered effectively.

Ensure that all maintenance and possible project requirements are progressed, and the Plant Engineer (Mechanical Maintenance) and Engineering Manager is informed of expected departures from programmed completion dates or major changes to original agreed costs.

Prepare Bill of Quantities and budgets for crop operations and off crop maintenance and possible projects.

Ensure that all Steam & Power Generation Section Drawings are kept updated and filed in the required manner.

Maintain security of the Steam & Power Generation Section and all property, stocks and other assets within it and take suitable precautions against theft and fire.

Maintain in good order the Steam & Power Generation Section including workshops and the equipment in it, in accordance with 5S principals.

Ensure the Steam & Power Generation Section employee compliment is the most appropriate for achieving objectives.

Recruit train and develop effective personnel to meet present and future needs. Play an active mentorship role for apprentices assigned to you.

Implement Tongaat Hulett personnel policies and national agreements.

Maintains sound labour relations and morale.

Utilize the company disciplinary code to ensure that all employee transgressions are recorded and investigated in a way that that allows the employee to decide his future with the company.

Authorizes and monitors all normal time and overtime of staff ensuring strict discipline to stay within budget constraints.

Complete all required Steam & Power Generation Section daily, weekly or monthly inspections/checklists/reports with respect to HSEQ, Planned Maintenance and Budgets.

Ensure that all aspects of the companies Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Systems are maintained as required including daily toolbox talks, Monthly HSE Meeting, Pre-task

Risk Assessments, Planned Job Observations and Incident Investigations & Preventative Actions done timeously to ensure that continuous improvements are achieved.

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

  Matric or NTC3 equivalent and relevant trade test            certificate.

   Tertiary qualification will be advantageous.

   Milling operations and maintenance experience will be advantageous

   Computer literate – able to use Microsoft Office, SAP, Bestime etc.

    Knowledge of raw sugar milling.

     Minimum of three years in supervisory capacity.

Strong leadership, good work ethics, people management skills, highly motivated and results driven.
