Our client is looking for a highly experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee large-scale construction projects in Zambia. The role involves managing the planning, execution, and finalization of various projects, ensuring quality, safety, and on-time completion. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and experience in managing complex construction processes in Africa.
Responsibilities:
- Project Planning:
- Develop comprehensive project plans, defining scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation. Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Coordination of Construction Activities:
- Oversee daily construction operations, ensuring they align with schedules, quality standards, and contract specifications. Work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Staff Hiring and Management:
- Lead the recruitment and management of contractors, subcontractors, and on-site teams. Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and skill development.
- Quality Control:
- Conduct regular site inspections and implement quality control processes to ensure work adheres to design specifications and industry standards.
- Compliance and Safety Management:
- Ensure all construction activities comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Conduct safety briefings and enforce protocols to prevent accidents.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals. Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones, and any challenges.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, and progress reports. Prepare detailed reports on budget performance and project risks.
- Problem Solving and Risk Management:
- Proactively identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies. Address unexpected challenges such as regulatory changes or material shortages with effective solutions.
- Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage detailed project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals. Address cost overruns and explore cost-saving opportunities.
Key Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and solve problems effectively.
- Strong knowledge of local construction laws, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

- Financial acumen and budget management experience.
- Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Experience working in Zambia or other sub-Saharan countries preferred.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s degree or PMP certification is advantageous).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience managing large-scale construction projects, particularly in Africa.
