The Deputy Feedlot Manager will assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the feedlot, ensuring the health, welfare, and performance of livestock. With a veterinary qualification, the Deputy Feedlot Manager will play a crucial role in animal health management, biosecurity, and the overall wellbeing of cattle in the feedlot. The role involves coordinating with various departments to ensure smooth operations, optimize feedlot productivity, and maintain high standards of care and management. Responsibilities: Animal Health Management:

Ensure the overall health and welfare of cattle in the feedlot. Diagnose, treat, and monitor livestock for diseases, injuries, and any other health-related issues.

Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments in accordance with veterinary protocols.
Feedlot Operations:

Support the Feedlot Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the feedlot, including feeding schedules, livestock movement, and maintenance of facilities.

Ensure efficient and effective feedlot practices that optimize cattle growth and feed conversion.
Veterinary Care and Supervision:

Provide veterinary support for the herd, conducting regular health assessments, implementing biosecurity measures, and coordinating with external veterinarians for specialized care when necessary.

Maintain accurate medical records for all animals.
Compliance and Safety:

Ensure that all feedlot operations comply with relevant animal welfare, health, and environmental regulations.

Enforce safety standards for both animals and employees, ensuring a safe working environment.
Team Leadership:

Assist in managing and leading the feedlot team, ensuring that all staff are trained and follow proper operational procedures, safety guidelines, and animal handling protocols.
Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records related to animal health, treatments, and feedlot performance.

Prepare and present reports on health status, feedlot productivity, and any other relevant performance metrics.
Collaboration and Coordination:

Stay up-to-date with veterinary best practices, feedlot management techniques, and industry trends. Suggest improvements to processes to increase productivity, animal health, and profitability.

Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing teams.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders including staff, management, and external partners.

Ability to quickly diagnose and address animal health issues, operational challenges, and ensure continuous improvement in feedlot operations.

Qualifications:

A veterinary qualification (BVSc, DVM, or equivalent) is essential.

At least 3-5 years of experience in feedlot management, animal husbandry, or a related field. Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role is preferred.

Experience with cattle health management in a feedlot setting is a significant advantage.
