Areas of Responsibilities

  • Design of overhead power lines including conductor selection, structure placement, and routing optimization for voltages of 132kV, 220kV, 275kV, 400kV and/or 765kV.
  • Conduct field surveys and feasibility studies for new line construction and existing line modifications
  • Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and construction documentation
  • Coordinate with environmental, permitting, and right-of-way teams for project development
  • Perform load flow analysis and voltage regulation studies
  • Inspect existing transmission and distribution lines for maintenance requirements
  • Investigate and analyze line outages, equipment failures, and protection system operations
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NERC) and company safety procedures
  • Collaborate with construction crews and contractors during line installation and maintenance
  • Develop cost estimates and project schedules for line projects
  • Review and approve as-built drawings and documentation
  • Participate in emergency response and system restoration activities

 

Education, Language & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Professional Registration (Pr. Eng or Pr.Tech Eng) preferred

Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in transmission/distribution line engineering
  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, PLSCADD, DigSILENT, etc.)
  • Experience with renewable energy design, implementation and/or integration

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (ESKOM, NESC, IEEE, NERC, CIGRE, etc.)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and relevant engineering design software

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
