Job Title: Group Insurance Assistant
Location: Woodmead
Primary Purpose (Role):
The Group Insurance Assistant will provide essential day-to-day support to the Group Insurance Manager by coordinating in-country insurance compliance activities, supporting EMEA exposure reporting, assisting with claims administration, and ensuring the accurate and timely execution of DRA’s global insurance processes. This role serves as the primary insurance contact for South Africa while also supporting broader EMEA and Group insurance operations.
Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities):
- In-Country Insurance Compliance
- Maintain compulsory South African insurance policies, including Liability, Motor, Professional Indemnity (where applicable), and Workers’ Compensation.
- Coordinate local renewals, declarations, endorsements and premium payments.
- Maintain and update policy registers and certificate libraries.
- Broker and Insurer Liaison
- Coordinate with brokers regarding certificates, endorsements, renewal information and claims updates.
- Assist in monitoring broker service performance and adherence to timelines.
- Renewal and Exposure Support
- Assist with collecting regional exposure data for global renewals, including turnover, wages, fleet, contractors and asset information.
- Support accuracy checks and follow-ups for EMEA exposure packs and declarations.
- Assist with premium allocation workflows and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Claims and Incident Support
- Assist with incident logging, document collection and claims reporting to insurers and brokers.
- Maintain regional claims registers and contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Governance and Standards
- Support the implementation of the Global Insurance Standard and assist with internal compliance monitoring.
- Maintain local procedures and ensure alignment with Group requirements.
- Cross-Functional Engagement
- Participate in quarterly meetings with Finance, Legal, Safety/HR, and Risk teams.
- Assist with reviewing insurance requirements for contracts, tenders or client requests.
- General Support
- Provide administrative support for global insurance initiatives, including data clean-ups, SharePoint updates and audit requests.
- Support the Group Insurance Manager with ad hoc projects and ongoing process improvements.
Qualifications:
- A Business Management or other relevant qualification is advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in corporate insurance, risk management or insurance broking – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing commercial insurance policies – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience liaising with insurance brokers and insurers on renewals, endorsements, certificates and claims – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting claims administration and incident reporting processes – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience maintaining insurance registers, policy documentation and compliance records – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ exposure to multinational or group insurance programmes – essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working within a corporate environment liaising with cross-functional stakeholders (Finance, Legal, HR, Safety) – essential.
Knowledge Areas (Essential):
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial insurance products.
- Understanding of insurance policy structures, certificates, endorsements and renewal processes.
- Familiarity with insurance compliance requirements.
- Understanding of exposure data utilised in insurance underwriting.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and data coordination.
