Handyman - Zimbali Lodge

Position Overview: The Handyman will provide a functional and practical service to the property, under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the property, units, buildings, and amenities are in sound condition.

Key Responsibilities:

Repair Maintenance:

• Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform repairs, building, installation, replacement, and maintenance of buildings and fixtures throughout the property.
• Report any breakage, faults, or damages of buildings and fittings observed to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
• Perform repairs, mends, fixes, and maintenance as directed.

Plumbing Maintenance:

• Repair and replace broken toilet and sanitary ware as needed and as directed.
• Replace broken and burst water pipes, unblock and clean drains.
• Assist in the installation of new sanitary ware.

Electrical Maintenance:

• Assist with rewiring and basic electrical maintenance.
• Replace light bulbs.
• Install light fittings under the direction of a qualified electrician.
• Assist in the replacement and general maintenance of geysers and geyser elements.
• Fix plugs and perform basic fault finding on appliances and fittings.

Carpentry Maintenance:

• Repair, mend, or install new doors as required in ZVC units or the lodge.
• Repair, mend, or install new skirting or ceilings as needed.
• Mend or repair broken or damaged window frames, wooden fittings, and furniture.
• Sand, seal, and varnish wooden fittings as directed.
• Repair wooden balustrades when necessary.

Building Maintenance:

• Replace and repair broken and cracked tiles.
• Perform basic bricklaying and plastering work as directed for refurbishment of the lodge and ZVC units.
• Perform ad hoc building projects in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager as needed.
• Touch up and repaint walls and surfaces as instructed.
• Be familiar with all health and safety measures.
• Respond to any other reasonable requests made by the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager or General Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

• At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
• Knowledge and experience in multiple areas of maintenance (e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.).
• Understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
