CORE PURPOSE OF JOB • To lead, enhance and promote research in the faculty in the field of curriculum studies. • Facilitate the teaching, learning and assessment of diverse undergraduate and postgraduate students in curriculum studies. • Supervise and guide the research of postgraduate students in the field of curriculum studies. • Conduct, publish and promote research in the field of curriculum studies and education theory. • Maintain an active research profile with national and international recognition in the field of curriculum studies. • Participate in faculty activities and assume administration responsibilities
Mentor and support emerging researchers in the faculty. • Contribute to the strengthening of the Postgraduate Studies department. • To initiate and lead community engagement activities that focus on curriculum studies. • Lead curriculum design and development activities in the faculty. • Lead and develop Africanising and Decolonising curriculum development initiatives and research activities in the Faculty. • To engage in the assessment of School-Based Learning and Teaching
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS • Facilitate the teaching, learning and assessment of a diverse group of undergraduate and postgraduate students on issues of curriculum studies. • Promote, guide and engage in post graduate supervision. • Lead and conduct research independently and collaboratively in the area of curriculum studies. • Publish nationally and internationally on contemporary issues related to curriculum studies. • Initiate and lead community engagement projects focused on curriculum issues. • Play a role in faculty management including curriculum development and administrative activities as required.
CORE COMPETENCIES • Have a sound knowledge of and extensive expertise in curriculum studies. • Ability to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment activities for a diverse group of undergraduate and postgraduate students in curriculum studies. • Ability to lead and guide programme development that is underpinned by curriculum principles. • Be able to proficiently navigate and utilise the Moodle Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate effective online teaching and learning experiences. • Ability to lead, promote and supervise post graduate research . • To maintain an active research profile through publications and conference presentations that will allow them to be recognised nationally and internationally. • The ability to mentor and support younger faculty staff members. • To have effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training and presentation skills.
REQUIREMENTS • Should be recognised as a leader in the field of curriculum studies at both national and international levels. • A doctoral degree in Education – focusing on curriculum studies. • An established record of postgraduate supervision. • A strong and consistent record of publications in the field of curriculum studies. (A minimum of 20 articles in accredited journals). • Must have at least 8 - 15 years of teaching experience at a higher education institution. • Evidence of academic and administrative leadership. • Strong track record of socially responsive scholarship, community engagement and public or professional service. • Curriculum scholarship anchored in approaches that seek to find critical, relevant, and innovative solutions to challenges that will benefit society to create a socially just world. • Five to eight years of relevant academic work experience as a full professor • An NRF rating would be an added advantage.
