As a highly skilled Energy Engineer specialising in electrical systems within the Mining and Metals Industry, your primary responsibility is to spearhead the design, implementation, and optimisation of hybrid renewable energy systems, specifically microgrids. Your expertise in integrating thermal, solar, wind, and energy storage technologies is pivotal in developing sustainable energy solutions.

 

In this role, you will lead the design and development of these systems, conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to ensure viability, and create detailed engineering plans and specifications in line with project requirements and industry standards. Your collaboration with cross-functional teams, provision of technical support during project phases, monitoring of performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering of client relationships are also integral components of this position.

 

Your responsibilities will focus on promoting efficiency and innovation in energy management within the demanding industrial environment of South Africa's mining and metals sector. This encompasses not only the design and development aspects but also performance monitoring, optimisation, compliance with safety and environmental standards, client relations, continuous improvement initiatives, energy audits, data analysis, cost reduction strategies, and knowledge sharing to enhance overall electrical efficiency and sustainability.

By leveraging your electrical engineering background and expertise in renewable energy systems, microgrid control strategies, and energy management, you will make a significant contribution to advancing sustainable energy practises within the mining and metals industry.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Professional engineering certification

 

Experience Required

  • Proven experience in electrical energy management and efficiency projects, preferably within the mining and metals industry.

 

Key Knowledge Areas

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and energy modelling software, with a focus on electrical data.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Familiarity with South African electrical regulations and environmental standards.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, particularly in conveying electrical energy-related information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
