Our client is seeking a Mine Automobile Engineer to join their Zambian team. The position is part of the Mining Department and will be heading the team which is required to manage the Company’s fleet of Heavy Equipment Machinery and Light Vehicles in order to achieve the minimum requirement of 85% equipment availability and enable production and other departments to meet their targets, whilst upholding high safety, maintenance standards, statutory and domestic regulation compliance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management- Takes responsibility for implementing a team's performance management systems with guidance from senior colleagues.

  • Operational Management- Provides operational support services and sometimes acts as first-line supervisors of a transactional operations area while using existing systems and protocols.

  • Leadership and Direction - Delivers outcomes by managing others and working within established systems.

  • Data Collection & Analysis - Works independently to collate and analyze data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats.

  • Compliance- Highlights shortcomings and suggests improvements in current compliance processes, systems and procedures within assigned discipline.

  • Budgeting & Costing- Takes responsibility for delivering a prescribed budget for own area of the organization and/or conducts complex analyses on budget progress in other areas while working within established systems.

  • Installation, Maintenance and Repair - Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and systems for emergency repairs, performs preventive maintenance inspections, assists specialists in setting up and testing new products/processes and installs complex systems with guidance.

  • Improvement / Innovation - Identifies shortcomings and suggests improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures, then delivers a plan for a small element of a change management program with guidance from management.

  • Policy Development & Implementation - Develops procedures for area of expertise with guidance from senior colleagues, then monitors implementation of those procedures within the section.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in all working areas

  • Ensure that the company has the capacity to achieve Zero Harm by actively identifying and reporting hazards using the sites hazard reporting system;

  • Use and maintain PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times;

  • Adhere to company policies and safety regulations and risk assessments and recommend improvements in quality of service and efficiency;

  • Ensure safety of personnel and prevent damage to company property;

  • Contribute to MEL capacity to achieve Zero Harm by actively identifying and reporting hazards using the sites hazard reporting system; and

  • Adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees to adopt safety as a culture.

  • Manage, organize and efficiently control a large size automobile and mechanical workshop

  • Plan and organize a Preventive Maintenance System and scheduled maintenance of Heavy Equipment Machinery and Light Motor Vehicles

  • Perform trouble-shooting and diagnostics procedures on Light vehicles and Heavy Equipment Machinery

  • Forecast and order spare parts for specific jobs/special jobs or for stocks replenishment.

  • Responsible for daily operations of a workshop, including leading a team of mechanics and technicians and ensuring high quality service delivery.

  • Ensuring the servicing of all light vehicles and HEMM are carried out in due time.

  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping.

  • Controlling the budget.

  • Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them.

  • Understand and ensure compliance with Mining, Environmental and other relevant regulations monitored by the Mine Safety Department and other Government organs.

  • Maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring the workshop’s operations do not harm the surrounding environment

  • Accountability - The job holder coordinates completion of projects within quality, budget and time constraints.

  • Complexity - The job holder handles engineering tasks that are complex and implements innovative solutions.

  • Must be able to work very closely with the Mining Department in provision of mining equipment for on-going operations to work at optimum levels

  • Must be able to undertake project work for operations as required;

  • Must be able to respond positively in attendance on breakdowns of Equipment at all times

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate;

  • At least must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering; Or Diploma Holder in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering.

  • Must be a Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia.

  • Must be a registered Engineer with the Engineering Regulation Board.

  • Possession of a Class C Driving License is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of Eight (08) years of experience in a reputable workshop with 3 years at departmental head level.

  • Experienced user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and other design and planning software.
