CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
• To teach English as a Home & Second Language at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. • To teach English as a Foreign language at a postgraduate level. • To teach Meta Theories in Language at a postgraduate level. • To supervise postgraduate students in Language, Multilingualism and Education Theory. • To engage in the assessment of School-Based Learning and Teaching. • To publish and lead research in the field of Multilingualism. • To participate in Community Engagement. • To lead post graduate research and curriculum development in multilingualism in the faculty.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS • Facilitate learning, teaching, and assessment processes in the Faculty regarding Language and Multilingualism. • Engage in scholarly work with an increased focus on the Africanisation and Decolonization of languages. • Engage in independent and collaborative research in the field of Multilingualism, Language and Education theory. • Participate in Faculty administration. • Lead and conduct research independently and collaboratively in the area of Languages and Multilingualism. • Publish nationally and internationally on contemporary issues related to Language and Multilingualism • Initiate and engage in community-based research. • To engage in the assessment of School-Based Learning and Teaching
CORE COMPETENCIES • Ability to facilitate learning processes in the field of Language in Education. • Facilitate the teaching, learning and assessment as well as the promotion of multilingualism at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. • A sound knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment strategies within the digital space as it relates to the field of language and multilingualism. • Ability to adapt the teaching of English Language to a diverse group of students. • Ability to conduct scholarly work with an increased focus on Africanization and Decolonization of languages within the context of education. • Supervision of postgraduate students in Language and Multilingualism. • The ability to supervise students in isiXhosa or Afrikaans will be an added advantage. • Facilitate and engage in curriculum development processes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. • Be able to manage and lead a niche area in multilingualism at the postgraduate level. • To maintain an active research profile (through publications and conference presentations) and be recognised nationally and internationally. • The ability to mentor and support younger faculty staff members. • To have effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training and presentation skills. • Ability to work on Moodle.
REQUIREMENTS • A relevant PhD degree within the field of Multilingualism or its equivalent. • Experience (5 -10 years) in the teaching of Multilingualism at a university level. • A proven record of: o supervising M&D students to completion. o Research productivity in and around the field of Multilingualism. • A sound disciplinary, and content knowledge in Multilingualism. • The ability to supervise students in isiXhosa or Afrikaans will be an added advantage.
