Fedgroup’s Alternative Asset Management business is growing, and we’re looking for a qualified CA(SA) to join the team as Assistant Financial Controller. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of financial reporting and control across a portfolio of lending funds and legal entities, covering month-end close and reconciliations through to annual financial statements, IFRS 9 and audit.
This role suits a technically strong Chartered Accountant who wants to build specialised expertise in lending and fund finance, with real responsibility from day one and a clear path towards a Financial Controller role.
What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting and Fund Accounting
- Own the monthly management accounts, journals, reconciliations and reporting packs for assigned funds and entities
- Ensure general ledger balances are accurate, fully supported and reconciled to the loan management system, bank and investor records
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between finance and loan book data, addressing root causes
- Prepare annual financial statements and IFRS disclosures for assigned entities
Lending Finance and IFRS 9
- Review and validate the accounting for loan drawdowns, repayments, interest income, fees, funding costs, restructures and write-offs
- Prepare effective interest rate calculations, deferred fee schedules and modification accounting
- Drive the monthly ECL process, including reconciling model outputs to the loan book and ledger, preparing journals and explaining movements
- Report on portfolio performance, including yield, cost of funds, net interest margin, arrears and ECL coverage
Audit, Controls and Compliance
- Manage audit deliverables for assigned entities, including schedules, supporting documentation and responses to audit queries
- Prepare statutory, tax and regulatory reporting inputs
- Maintain audit-ready working papers throughout the year
- Take ownership of resolving control findings and strengthening the control environment
Budgeting, Treasury and Management Information
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and financial models for assigned funds
- Analyse profitability by fund, product and portfolio segment
- Support cash-flow monitoring, funding reconciliations, liquidity planning and covenant reporting
- Contribute to investor, board and credit committee reporting
Process Improvement and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Identify and implement improvements to reporting processes, reconciliations and finance systems, including automation
- Partner with Operations, Credit Risk, Treasury, Technology and fund principals
- Explain financial results clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
What You’ll Bring
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant, CA(SA)
- At least 2 years’ post-articles experience in financial reporting, financial control, audit or fund accounting
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 9
- Hands-on experience with management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations, annual financial statements and audit
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with an ERP or general ledger system
- Lending experience within alternative asset management, private credit, banking or fund administration would be advantageous
- Exposure to loan management systems, Power BI or SQL would be a plus
Skills and Attributes
- High standards of accuracy, with a firm unwillingness to leave differences unexplained
- Ability to work independently and take full ownership of deliverables
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to link accounting movements to loan book activity and business performance
- Clear, confident communication with senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage competing deadlines across month-end, audit and reporting cycles
- A drive to improve processes and build scalable reporting
Why Join Us? You’ll join a growing alternative asset management business where your work directly shapes reporting quality, financial control and decision-making. Working alongside an experienced Financial Controller, you’ll gain end-to-end exposure to the lending-finance cycle, including fund accounting, IFRS 9, treasury, forecasting and investor reporting.
