Job Title : Front End Relief (Senior)

Grade : C2

Reports to : Process Engineer/Shift Extraction Supervisor

Department : Production

Main purpose of the job

The position will serve as a relief for the following positions and when not relieving will be on dayshift reporting to the day shift Foreman:

Extraction supervisor

• Manage and Operate Cane Yard and Extraction Department to effectively meet throughput and technical performance parameters with minimal downtime.
• Monitor cane preparation on both tandems and take corrective action if necessary.
• Communicate effectively with process Super-intendant and Boiler Supervisor for smooth plant operations.
• Execute a Supervisory role ensuring all employees on designated shifts work Safely and adhere to Company Policies. Issuing and implementation of Safety and Lock-out Permits and procedures.
• Ensure all Planned Maintenance Work-orders are executed and closed off timeously.
• Report and follow-up on completion of all defects in department  via notifications to relevant stakeholders including standby personnel.
• Maintenance to be planned and resources allocated to complete all stop day and off-crop tasks.
• Manage and approve all Time and Attendance of employees on designated shifts daily.
• Initiate Disciplinary processes when required.
• Control departmental  costs within allocated budgets.
• Follow all lawful instructions from management

Diffuser Panel Operator

• Safely Start and Stop equipment in cane-yard and Front-end in a controlled manner
• Control cane throughput.
• Accurately log down-time and slow-crush.
• Achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for Performance targets in Extraction.
• Maintenance of equipment on stop day or upon request from supervisor.
• Trouble-shoot and problem solve to minimize down-time and achieve continuous production.
• Adhere to all SHE policies and procedures.
• Follow any lawful instruction by supervisor

Assistant diffuser operator

• Stopping and starting of motors, opening and closing of valves
• Conduct mill checks, washing and cleaning of filters
• Changing of spare gear oil pumps and changing of spray arms
• Relieve control panel operator and start up mill turbine
• Start shredder and knives, opening and closing of steam valves
• Adhere to all SHE policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

• Matric with Maths and Science.
• Theory of Cane preparation, diffusion and milling operation.
• 2-3 years’ prior experience in a similar environment.
• OWN TRANSPORT ESSENTIAL!!!

• Ability to work under pressure.
• Must be strong in the decision making process
• Must have reputable problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
• Take initiative and work without continuous supervision
