Job Title: Instrumentation Engineer
Organisation: DRA Projects (Pty) Ltd
Location: Woodmead
Primary Purpose (Role):
The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for providing complete engineering solutions in the instrumentation field to DRA. The ideal candidate is an experienced Instrumentation Engineer with a background in process control and instrumentation within multi-disciplinary engineering project teams. Experience in industries such as mining and minerals processing, water, wastewater, agriculture, energy, and emerging technologies is preferred.
Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities):
Technical:
- Ensure comprehensive instrument design engineering for various projects, primarily in the process and mining industry
- Proficient in key instrument engineering tasks
- Compile instrument data sheets
- Create loop drawings
- Size control valves
- Size flow metres
- Select appropriate instruments
- Provide technical support to subordinates
- Manage procurement packages
- Review and approve engineering designs before implementation
- Conduct innovative detailed designs following good engineering practises
- Ensure designs comply with client standards and specifications, industry standards, relevant legislation, proven DRA solutions, and undergo peer review before implementation
- Facilitate design interface between disciplines
- Participate in HAZOP Studies
- Ensure accuracy and certification of design information received from vendors, contractors, and consultants
- Effectively review and approve designs
- Implement continuous improvement, lessons learned, value engineering, and latest technologies
- Take responsibility for instrumentation discipline sign off
- Collaborate with internal and external design and drafting disciplines
- Provide discipline inputs for studies and proposals, and assist with developing new business proposals
- Conduct or assist with technical bid analysis and adjudication
- Provide engineering support to the site team
- Perform commissioning discipline activities
- Manage the mark-up and back drafting of redline drawings
- Provide C&I engineering handover and support to the client
Operational:
- Support the Manager: Instrumentation in all related duties as required
- Attend project team and client meetings as requested
- Utilise all Instrument Engineering software, supported by DRA EC&I (FDES, EPLAN or COMOS)
- Take on client-facing roles as needed for the project
- Drive innovation and optimisation
- Collaborate with design engineers, project engineers, procurement, and other internal staff
- Manage projects within cost and time constraints
- Understand and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards
- Provide input into all SHE matters, actively participate in promoting a total safety culture
- Ensure compliance with relevant project procedures
- Assist with commissioning according to project and vendor specifications
- Create structured, accurate, complete, and well-presented reports
- Communicate proactively with the project team regarding discipline interface and problem solving
- Effectively manage time
- Adhere to proper change management procedures
- Provide advice and consultancy support
- Ensure project deliverables comply with ISO requirements
Stakeholder Relations:
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with all stakeholders
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities
- Keep clients informed and up to date on the status of project technical aspects
- Ensure DRA remains the client's engineering service provider of choice
- Liaise and coordinate with the client's discipline engineers to adhere to project and client requirements and specifications
- Proactively communicate with the complete DRA project team
Qualifications:
Formal Qualification Required: Essential / Advantageous
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electronic or Electrical Engineering): Advantageous (Preferred)
National Higher Diploma in Engineering (Electronic or Electrical): Essential
Memberships:
Professional Membership Required: Essential / Advantageous
Professional Registration / Eligible for Professional Registration: Advantageous
Experience:
Job-Related Experience Required: Time Span / Essential or Advantageous
Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a similar role at a comparable level in a company: Essential
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the following aspects of instrument engineering:

Minimum of 5 years of experience within an EPCM or mining environment: Essential
