About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Millwright to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in our [specify industry, e.g., manufacturing, power generation, mining] facility. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Assembly:
-
Install, assemble, and commission new industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to blueprints, technical specifications, and manufacturer's instructions.

Lay out and build foundations for machines as required.

Operate rigging equipment, cranes, and forklifts to safely move and position heavy machinery and parts.

Align and balance machinery and components to precise tolerances using specialized tools (e.g., micrometers, laser alignment tools, plumb bobs, jacks, hoists).

Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts.

Maintenance and Repair:
-
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on various mechanical systems, including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, fans, tanks, presses, generators, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities, malfunctions, and wear.
-
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to identify root causes of operating errors.

Repair or replace defective parts, including bearings, seals, gears, and other mechanical components, using a variety of hand and power tools.

Adjust functional parts of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and mechanisms to ensure optimal performance.

Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed for repairs or modifications.

Clean and lubricate equipment as part of routine maintenance.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
-
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography, fluid analysis) to assess equipment condition and predict potential failures.

Interpret complex engineering specifications, schematics, and blueprints to determine work procedures and identify problems.
-
Fault-find on electrical and electronic circuits related to machinery control systems.

Safety and Compliance:
-
Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Install and maintain safety guards and other safety accessories on machinery.

Conduct pre-task hazard assessments and ensure a safe working environment.
-
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts inventory.

Collaboration and Communication:
-
Collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and other maintenance teams to address equipment-related challenges, optimize performance, and minimize downtime.

Provide clear and concise reports on maintenance activities and equipment status.
-
May mentor and train junior millwrights or apprentices.
Qualifications:
-
Education:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 9/NQF Level 1 minimum, Grade 12 with Maths and Science preferred).

Completion of a recognized Millwright Apprenticeship Program (typically 3-4 years).

National N1-N3 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) is often required, with N4-N6 preferred for further advancement.

Millwright Trade Test Certificate (certified based on national standards).

Experience:
-
Proven experience as a qualified Millwright or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, with [X years, e.g., 3-5 years] of hands-on experience in an industrial setting.

Demonstrated experience with the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of industrial machinery and equipment.

Certifications/Licenses:

Valid Driver's License (often required for site travel).
