Our client is seeking an Imports Controller to join their team.

Responsibilities:

  • To check accuracy of client’s documents and ensure correct HS codes are applied.

  • Register shipments in our client's Systems.

  • To ensure that the SARS entries and Cargo Dues, are submitted within the required timeframes.

  • To obtain authority releases where required i.e., Port Health, Agriculture, State Vet.

  • Obtain shipping line invoices timeously and check the correct rates have been applied in accordance with the quote.

  • To ensure cargo is released by the shipping line within the required timeframes to avoid storage costs.

  • Arrange haulage to clients nominated address.

  • Ensure all authority inspections are carried out.

  • Approve suppliers’ invoices on DocIt.

  • Request quotes as required.

  • To ensure any problems/potential problems are flagged immediately with the relevant manager.

  • To ensure clients invoicing is processed on time and sign off draft invoices.

  • Liaise with clients and update regularly with status reports.

  • Liaise with unpack depots, shipping lines & freight forwarders.

  • Arrange ex works shipments from various origins.

  • Endeavour to work closer with the client in terms of forecasting as best as possible as to give our finance department enough line of sight on cash flow planning especially in ports of discharge where no deferment is in place.

  • Provide input to KAM or Key Client Executive of how the client is tracking in terms of age analysis and in coming shipments i.e planned versus actual.

  • On occasion provide background or input/advice to Pricing controllers in terms of suggested profit margins.

  • Ability to work with multiple key stakeholders both internal and external.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/Matric Certificate (Essential).

  • Diploma in Shipping, Clearing and Freight Forwarding, Distribution and Logistics Management or related field (Desirable).

  • A minimum of 3-years’ experience in Freight Forwarding and Logistics experience (Import related).

  • Proficient Computer Literacy, high tech environment, especially Google Workspace and Excel (Preferred).

  • Customer Service mindset.

  • Willingness to work additional hours from time to time due to nature of business.

  • After hour availability is essential.

  • Knowledge of all road transport modes.

  • Must be able to understand, write and speak Afrikaans and English fluently.

  • Level 1 & 2 Customs Training.

  • Understanding the Customs and Excise Act and the Tariff Book.

  • Understand the different types of customs declarations.
