The incumbent is responsible for technical support and facility maintenance within the Mechanical Engineering Research Testing Laboratories and associated facilities, as well as, technical project support The candidate needs to facilitate and administer the learning process for students in modules presented at the Nelson Mandela University at undergraduate and post graduate level in all laboratories of the department of Mechanical Engineering. The candidate needs to be involved in community engagement activities. The candidate needs to support the Nelson Mandela University values and to implement the KPA’s required for the position.

- Proficiency in installing, calibrating, operating, and maintaining various laboratory equipment.

- The ability to convey technical information clearly and understandably, both in verbal and written forms.
- Have project management skills to plan, organize, and execute technical projects efficiently to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with industry, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds to identify technical requirements and provide support for multi-disciplinary projects.
- Ability to facilitate and develop learning manuals at undergraduate and postgraduate level in utilizing equipment to conduct research or experimental work.

REQUIREMENTS
|
- Successful candidate must have at least a BTech Degree/Advanced Diploma/BEngTech in Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Industrial Engineering
- A minimum of 3-5 years technical experience.
- Track record in guiding and training students to perform experimental work.
- Demonstrate competence in operating or maintaining a Drone or 6-axis robotic laser Cell or EDS or iXRD through a competency test after interviews.
- Professional registration: a minimum of Technician or Technologist will be beneficial (the successful candidate will be expected to apply for and register as a Technologist within 12 months of appointment if not yet registered).
