Position: Dynamic Simulation Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Simulation Engineer to develop and implement advanced digital simulation models that optimise mining and processing operations from pit to port. This role centres on analysing complex systems, identifying bottlenecks, and evaluating improvement scenarios to enhance throughput, utilisation, and operational efficiency whilst reducing costs. As part of the DRA Mine-Wide Simulation team, the successful candidate will deliver integrated, data-driven insights utilising multi-method simulation techniques to support feasibility studies and operational decision-making across mining, processing, and logistics projects.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Develop and analyse multi-method simulation models using AnyLogic software, incorporating discrete-event, agent-based, and system dynamics methodologies.

• Conduct system-level analyses to identify constraints, inefficiencies, and optimisation opportunities considering throughput, utilisation, and cost across the mining value chain.

• Integrate inputs from mining, process, and mechanical engineering disciplines into cohesive simulation models.

• Support feasibility studies, operational improvement initiatives, and scenario testing by providing actionable recommendations.

• Produce clear, high-quality technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal teams, clients, and senior stakeholders.

• Manage simulation project scope, schedule, quality, and risk, providing technical support throughout model execution and deployment.

• Engage professionally with clients and contribute simulation inputs to proposals, studies, and business development activities.

• Promote safety, compliance, continuous improvement, and innovation throughout all simulation activities.

Qualifications

• BEng, BSc (Honours), BTech, or NQF Level 7 (or higher) in Engineering, with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.

• Professional registration is advantageous.

• Postgraduate qualifications are desirable.

Experience

• Proven understanding and/or experience in dynamic simulation.

• Experience collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Previous involvement in mining projects is preferred.

Essential Knowledge Areas

• Data analysis and statistical methods.

• Knowledge of underground and open-pit logistics within the mining industry.

• Basic coding skills (Java, Python, or similar).

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We are an equal-opportunity employer, celebrating diversity and valuing varied perspectives to build stronger teams. Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, colour, place of birth, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability is not tolerated.
