Job Title: Electrical Supervisor

Organisation: DRA Projects 

Location: DRA Sites

 

Primary Purpose (Role):

The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for on-site, discipline-specific management of safety, quality, schedule, materials, personnel, construction, documentation, and reporting. This role requires an Electrical or Instrumentation Site Supervisor with experience in process control and instrumentation within multi-disciplinary engineering project teams. Relevant sectors include mining and minerals processing, water, wastewater, agriculture, and emerging technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Execution

  • Accountable to the Construction Manager at all times.
  • Supervise daily ECI construction and installation activities on site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, artisans, and technicians effectively.
  • Monitor productivity and progress against project schedules.
  • Ensure safe operation of the site construction power.
  • Ensure the Electrical & Instrumentation Contractor fully understands and adheres to all applicable site electrical procedures, e.g. Lock-out Procedure.
  • Verify that suitably qualified and authorised personnel perform electrical lockouts and HT switching.
  • Implement and control all Electrical Site Variation Instructions according to the agreed Site Variation Procedure.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Support the Construction Manager in fulfilling duties under mine legislation and SHE procedures.
  • Ensure the Electrical & Instrumentation Contractor prepares all necessary safety documentation before work commencement.
  • Confirm that required safety meetings are held regularly.
  • Periodically review contractor safety documentation for compliance.
  • Enforce adherence to site safety procedures and legal requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
  • Ensure all work aligns with HSE policies and zero-harm objectives.
  • Identify and communicate shortcomings and corrective measures in accordance with DRA SHE specifications.
  • Focus on eliminating unsafe acts and rectifying unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Manage planned task observations as per the PTO schedule.
  • Provide final approval of all risk assessments.

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Confirm that approved contractor Quality Control Plans (QCPs) are utilised and signed off.
  • Perform inspections and sign-offs on completed work.
  • Initiate punch lists and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support commissioning and handover processes.
  • Coordinate updating of as-built drawings (red corrections).
  • Compile and maintain all relevant quality and handover documentation continuously.

Planning & Coordination

  • Review project schedules and manage contractors to ensure timely completion.
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Assist in short-term planning and scheduling of ECI activities.
  • Coordinate interfaces between ECI and other disciplines (civil, mechanical, etc.).
  • Verify site-delivered equipment with the Materials Controller, confirming equipment tag numbers, approving packing lists, and inspecting for transport damage.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily site reports, progress updates, and records.
  • Track work completed against planned activities.
  • Report delays, risks, and issues promptly to management.
  • Ensure proper documentation for inspections and handover.
  • Confirm issued E&I drawings and revisions with Site and Head Office Document Control.

Commissioning Support

  • Assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Support testing, loop checks, and system verification.
  • Ensure readiness for energisation and system start-up.
  • Ensure safe access handover forms are received from Mechanical, Piping, and Civil contractors before allowing electrical contractors into work areas; maintain clear records of access dates.

 

Qualifications

  • National Diploma or Trade Test in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related field – Essential
  • Valid Trade Certificate (Electrician/Instrument Technician preferred) – Essential

Experience

  • 5–10 years’ experience in ECI construction or site supervision – Essential
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, or industrial projects – Essential
  • Proven track record in managing subcontractors and site teams for at least 5 years – Essential
  • Experience with EPCM projects – Essential

Skills

  • Strong understanding of ECI systems, installations, and commissioning – Essential
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations – Essential
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics – Essential
