CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this post is to provide humanising student centred and staff support. Through consultative engagement the position will assist staff and students to solve problems, manage change, improve efficiency and ensure the effective and efficient execution of Faculty Academic Administration functions and functions in the broader Academic Administration (AA) where required.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Humanising consultative engagement with students and staff to assist, advise and ensure compliance with relevant Faculty, Academic Administration and related institutional policies and procedures.
  • Perform efficient and effective Faculty and Academic Administration processes where required.
  • Provide the secretariat function for allocated Faculty committees.
  • Provide training to staff and students on Faculty Academic Administration procedures, processes and policies.

CORE COMPETENCIES

 
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Faculty and Academic Administration rules, policies, procedures and systems.
  • Extensive verbal and written communication skills to ensure and achieve the required standard of communication to communicate the impact of implementing selected scenarios to the affected stakeholders, committee administration and report writing.
  • Strong ability to manage and perform functions concurrently that are different in nature, while working to tight deadlines and with considerable interruptions under stressful circumstances on a continuous basis including planning, organizing and quality assurance.
  • Strong ability to work independently within a diverse team to build relationships in order to gain cooperation from staff and students.
  • Strong ability to take initiative in problem solving through analyses to independently identify, evaluate, propose and decide on scenarios to solve complex student and staff Faculty Academic Administration matters.
 

REQUIREMENTS

 
  • An appropriate M+3 qualification; AND
  • At least 3 years relevant experience at a Higher Education Institution in an Academic Administration or Faculty Academic Administration environment;
  • In considering candidates for appointment into the advertised posts, preference will be accorded to persons from designated groups as guided by the approved Equity Plan; AND
  • Preference will be accorded to candidates with Faculty Academic Administration experience including proven Committee Secretariate experience.
  • Shortlisted candidates could be required to avail themselves for psychometric testing which would inform the shortlisting and/or contribute towards the interview process
