Position Summary

The Junior Electrician is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across the property. This is a developmental role where the candidate is expected to support qualified electricians, gain hands-on experience, and grow their technical and safety knowledge. 

 

The role contributes to maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable electrical operations throughout the facility, while adhering to all legal and safety regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Electrical Assistance & Support

• Assist with the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, fixtures, and wiring under supervision.

• Carry tools and materials, prepare job sites, and assist with assembling electrical components.

• Support the Senior Electrician with basic repairs, testing, and troubleshooting.

 

Preventive Maintenance

• Participate in routine inspections of electrical systems including distribution boards, lighting, and plug circuits.

• Clean electrical panels, check for loose connections, and replace lamps or fittings as needed.

• Report any identified hazards or faults to the supervising electrician.

 

Safety & Compliance

• Always adhere to health and safety policies and procedures on-site.

• Wear PPE and use tools safely as per instructions.

• Never work on live systems or high-voltage equipment without proper training and supervision.

• Participate in toolbox talks and training sessions.

 

Learning & Development

• Gain on-the-job experience with commercial wiring, testing instruments, circuit breakers, relays, and motor controls.

• Study and understand basic wiring diagrams and layouts.

• Progressively take on more responsibility as skills develop.

 

Tools & Housekeeping

• Ensure tools are cleaned and returned after use.

• Maintain neat and organized workspaces during and after task completion. Assist in the inventory of tools and materials.

 

Recordkeeping

• Help update job cards, log books, and task records as directed.

• Learn to use the CMMS system (e.g., OMNI) to log and close tasks under supervision.

 

Qualifications And Education Requirements:

• NQF Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Trade or currently enrolled in an apprenticeship/learnership program

• Electrical Trade Theory qualification (in progress or completed).

 

Experience:

• 0–2 years in a technical or electrical support role

• Previous exposure to hospitality or commercial building maintenance is a plus
