Our client, a global technology firm, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead a major enterprise resource planning (ERP) project in Sandton in a permanent position. They offer stability, long-term growth, a competitive remuneration package and a collaborative working environment.

Role Overview

The Senior Project Manager will provide end-to-end leadership for a major ERP implementation, from mobilisation and solution design through build, testing, data migration, cutover, go-live and stabilisation. The role is accountable for delivering the project within agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality parameters while ensuring alignment between business objectives, technology delivery and operational readiness. Working across finance, procurement, supply chain, human resources, technology, data, operations and external implementation partners, the incumbent will manage governance, plans, resources, dependencies, risks, change adoption and executive reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of a major ERP implementation from mobilisation and planning through design, build, testing, deployment, stabilisation and project closure.
  • Define and control project scope, objectives, deliverables, success measures, workstreams, milestones and acceptance criteria in partnership with business and technology leaders.
  • Establish effective project governance, decision rights, reporting standards, assurance checkpoints, change control and escalation mechanisms.
  • Develop and maintain the integrated project plan, critical path, budget, resource plan, RAID log, dependency map, quality plan and executive dashboard.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across finance, procurement, supply chain, human resources, technology, data, security, operations and organisational change.
  • Manage the systems integrator and other third-party vendors against contractual commitments, delivery milestones, service levels, quality standards and commercial outcomes.
  • Oversee solution design and configuration to ensure that business requirements are translated into scalable, controlled and supportable ERP processes.
  • Drive integration delivery across the ERP platform, legacy applications, data platforms, reporting solutions and external systems.
  • Lead data migration planning and execution, including data ownership, cleansing, mapping, reconciliation, validation and business sign-off.
  • Oversee testing across unit, system integration, user acceptance, performance and regression phases, ensuring defects are prioritised and resolved before release.
  • Own cutover planning, deployment readiness, go-live governance, contingency planning, hypercare and transition to the support organisation.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, communications, training, business readiness and change adoption to embed new processes and ways of working.
  • Manage project financials, forecasts, procurement, resource capacity and benefits tracking, ensuring transparent reporting and value delivery.
  • Prepare and present concise status reports, risk assessments, decision papers and recovery plans to steering committees and executive sponsors.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Extensive senior project management experience, including accountability for at least one major end-to-end ERP implementation or transformation.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex, enterprise-wide projects with significant business process, technology, data and organisational change.
  • Strong understanding of ERP implementation lifecycles, including discovery, fit-to-standard analysis, design, configuration, integration, testing, migration, cutover and hypercare.
  • Proven ability to manage a systems integrator and multiple vendors within complex commercial, contractual and delivery arrangements.
  • Experience leading cross-functional workstreams involving finance, procurement, supply chain, human resources, technology, data and operations.
  • Strong command of project management methodologies, including waterfall, agile and hybrid delivery, as well as governance, assurance and change control.
  • Experience managing large project budgets, resource plans, delivery schedules, critical paths, dependencies, risks, issues and quality outcomes.
  • Sound knowledge of data migration, systems integration, testing, release management, cutover planning and operational transition.
  • Exceptional executive stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, facilitation and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and escalate appropriately.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capability, with sound judgement in complex, high-risk and time-critical situations.
  • Ability to produce clear steering committee packs, project dashboards, financial reports, risk assessments, decision papers and recovery plans.
  • Experience using enterprise delivery and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and portfolio dashboards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification in Business, Commerce, Finance, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Engineering, Project Management or a related field.
  • Recognised project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP or an equivalent credential.
  • Formal agile, change management or service management certification would be advantageous.
  • Experience delivering a leading enterprise ERP platform such as SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 or an equivalent solution.
  • Experience with global template deployment, multi-entity or multi-country rollouts, business process harmonisation and operating-model transformation.
  • Experience leading cloud ERP implementations, complex integrations, data migration and transition from legacy platforms.
  • Experience working with executive steering committees, business process owners, internal audit, information security and enterprise architecture functions.
