COREPURPOSEOFJOB

The Department of Psychology is looking for a qualified, experienced Research or Clinical or Counselling or Educational Psychologist, who is registered with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in independent practice. The incumbent must have expert knowledge in the field of psychology and will be expected to facilitate and administer the teaching and learning of students in modules that they will present. The person will be expected to do research, supervise undergraduate and post graduate students, contribute to community engagement and to professionally participate in the core functions of the Department and the University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Leadership in facilitating learning and teaching, including e-learning,
  • Development, revision and evaluation of learning, teaching and support materials,
  • Provision of pastoral care, mentoring and clinical supervision,
  • Provision of research supervision at post-graduate and doctoral levels,
  • Developing and managing individual and group research,
  • Carry out departmental and faculty administrative and management duties,
  • Involvement in community engagement.

CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Expert knowledge and grounding in the discipline of Psychology.
  • Extensive experience in the facilitation of learning and teaching at under- and post-graduate levels.
  • Sound IT knowledge and expertise in technology for blended learning.
  • Clinical and research supervision of Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.
  • Knowledge of program management and curriculum development.
  • Experience in preparation of publications for journals and/or the preparation of presentations for national, and international conferences.
 

POST REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements by appointment level Senior Lecturer

  • A Doctoral degree in Psychology.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as an independent Research, Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychologist, with at least three years of registration in independent practice.
  • At least three to seven years of relevant teaching, lecturing, research or professional experience in Psychology.
  • Evidence of successful teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A developing track record of publications in accredited national and/or international journals and presentations at scholarly conferences.
  • Experience in supervising Honours and Master’s research projects.
  • Evidence of involvement in programme coordination, curriculum development and/or accreditation processes.
  • Potential to build a national profile through research, professional service and community engagement.

Associate Professor

  • A Doctoral degree in Psychology.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as an independent Research, Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychologist, with at least three years of registration in independent practice.
  • At least three to seven years of relevant teaching, lecturing, research or professional experience in Psychology, of which

at least three years must include postgraduate supervision and/or the mentoring of academic staff.

  • Extensive experience in facilitating learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in providing academic leadership.
  • A sustained track record of publications in accredited national and international journals and presentations at national and

international conferences.

  • Successful supervision of Honours and Master’s research projects, together with at least one completed doctoral co-supervision or supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership in programme coordination, curriculum development and accreditation processes.
  • An established or emerging national reputation in Psychology, supported by research, professional service, collaboration and community engagement.
