At The President Hotel, our Maintenance team plays a critical role in ensuring our 349-room property operates safely, efficiently and reliably every day. From comfortable guest rooms and public spaces to restaurants, kitchens, conference facilities and back-of-house areas, effective air-conditioning and ventilation systems are essential to the guest experience.

As we continue our journey toward luxury, we’re looking for a technically minded and motivated Junior Hotel AC Technician (HVAC) to join our Maintenance Department. This is an opportunity for someone with practical air-conditioning and refrigeration knowledge who is eager to develop their technical skills within a large, high-volume hotel environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification or training in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, HVAC or a related technical field
• Minimum 1 to 2 years’ practical experience working with air-conditioning, refrigeration or HVAC systems
• Previous maintenance experience within a hotel, hospitality, hospital, retail, commercial property or other large-scale facility highly advantageous
• Basic knowledge of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, components and operating principles
• Practical exposure to the maintenance, servicing and basic fault-finding of air-conditioning units
• Experience with split units, cassette units, ducted systems and commercial air-conditioning equipment advantageous
• Basic understanding of compressors, condensers, evaporators, thermostats, motors, fans and electrical controls
• Ability to assist with identifying and diagnosing common air-conditioning faults
• Understanding of preventative and planned maintenance procedures
• Basic ability to read technical diagrams, equipment manuals and manufacturer specifications
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements when working with HVAC and refrigeration equipment
• Ability to use technical tools and testing equipment safely and correctly
• Strong practical and problem-solving ability
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to completing work to a high standard
• Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of experienced technicians
• Willingness to learn and continuously develop technical knowledge and skills
• Ability to work independently on basic maintenance tasks once appropriately trained
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Physically fit and comfortable working within a busy hotel maintenance environment
• Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays and assist with emergency call-outs when required
• Professional, reliable and accountable approach to work
• Valid South African ID

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assisting with the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and HVAC systems throughout the hotel
• Supporting senior technicians with fault-finding and repairs on air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment
• Attending to air-conditioning maintenance requirements within 349 guest rooms, apartments and suites, as well as restaurants, conference facilities, public areas and back-of-house spaces
• Responding promptly to guest-room air-conditioning faults and helping restore systems with minimal disruption to the guest experience
• Carrying out routine preventative maintenance on air-conditioning units according to the hotel’s maintenance programme
• Cleaning and replacing filters and assisting with the cleaning of coils, condensers, evaporators and other components
• Checking thermostats, controls, fans, motors and other components for correct operation
• Assisting with basic fault-finding on compressors, electrical controls and associated HVAC components
• Identifying unusual noises, leaks, temperature fluctuations and other potential equipment problems and reporting them promptly
• Assisting with the installation and replacement of air-conditioning components and equipment where required
• Learning to diagnose faults accurately and progressively taking responsibility for more complex maintenance tasks as your skills develop
• Ensuring equipment is operating efficiently and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary energy consumption
• Following all required health, safety and environmental procedures when working with HVAC and refrigeration equipment
• Using tools, testing equipment and PPE safely and correctly at all times
• Working closely with the wider Maintenance team to ensure technical issues are addressed efficiently
• Supporting other maintenance activities when operational requirements demand additional assistance
• Maintaining clean, organised and safe work areas during and after every task
• Ensuring tools and equipment are correctly maintained, cleaned and stored after use
• Completing job cards and maintenance records accurately
• Updating maintenance tasks within the hotel’s maintenance management system as required
• Participating in toolbox talks, technical training and ongoing skills development
• Progressively taking on greater responsibility as your technical knowledge, confidence and experience develop
