Role purposeThe IT Systems Developer designs, develops, integrates, tests and supports secure business applications and automated solutions across the Group. The role converts operational requirements into maintainable systems, reduces reliance on external development resources and ensures that technical knowledge, source code and documentation remain under internal control. Key responsibilities• Design, develop and maintain web applications, APIs, background services and internal business systems using C#, ASP.NET and the modern Microsoft .NET platform. • Modernise and support existing ASP.NET applications while progressively adopting ASP.NET Core, current .NET releases and maintainable architecture patterns. • Build secure REST APIs and system integrations between ERP, finance, operational, Microsoft 365 and third-party platforms. • Develop responsive user interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript or TypeScript and an appropriate modern front-end framework. • Create and optimise SQL Server databases, queries, stored procedures, data models and reporting datasets. • Automate manual processes and recurring operational tasks using APIs, workflows, scripts and suitable low-code tools where these are the correct solution. • Translate approved business requirements into technical designs, delivery estimates, working software and clear acceptance criteria. • Apply secure coding, authentication, authorisation, input validation, secrets management, logging and data-protection practices throughout the development lifecycle. • Write unit and integration tests; perform code reviews; troubleshoot defects; and support user acceptance testing and controlled production releases. • Use Git-based version control and maintain controlled development, test and production environments with repeatable deployment practices. • Monitor and support applications, investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions. • Maintain accurate source-code repositories, technical documentation, database diagrams, API specifications, release notes and support procedures. • Manage work through the IT change, incident, request and project-governance processes and provide clear progress reporting to the Group IT Manager. • Work with business stakeholders and approved service providers while ensuring that architecture, access, source code and intellectual property remain controlled by the Group. Essential technical requirements• C# and object-oriented programming strong commercial development capability is mandatory. • ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core proven experience building and supporting production web applications and APIs is mandatory. • .NET platform practical knowledge of current supported .NET versions, dependency injection, configuration, logging and application architecture. • Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL database design, querying, performance optimisation and data integrity. • Web technologies HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and preferably TypeScript. • API development and integration REST, JSON, authentication and third-party service integration. • Git version control, branching, pull requests and disciplined source-code management. • Secure development practices, including OWASP principles, role-based access and protection of credentials and sensitive data. • Testing, debugging and structured troubleshooting across application, API and database layers.
