- Driving the development, implementation, and continual improvement of DRA’s HSE strategy.
- Providing expert strategic HSE advice to senior executives, Project Directors, Project Managers, and Construction Managers.
- Ensuring robust HSE governance, oversight, and assurance throughout the lifecycle of multidisciplinary EPCM/EPC projects.
- Championing Material Risk Management and Critical Control Management across all projects.
- Leading reviews of project HSE strategies, plans, risk profiles, and organisational capability.
- Identifying systemic HSE risks, emerging trends, and recurring control failures, and spearheading appropriate interventions.
- Supporting significant incident investigations, promoting organisational learning, and driving corrective action programmes.
- Enhancing contractor HSE governance, mobilisation, performance, and accountability.
- Promoting Safety in Design and integrating HSE principles into engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Supporting governance and continual improvement of DRA’s Integrated Management System.
- Ensuring effective application and compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Utilising digital HSE systems and data to strengthen governance, reporting, assurance, and organisational learning.
- Developing meaningful HSE dashboards, trend analyses, and reporting for Executive and Board levels.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with major clients and representing DRA at senior HSE and governance forums.
- Coaching and developing Project HSE Managers and other senior HSE professionals.
- Supporting emergency, crisis, international project, and business continuity risk management.
- Progressively assuming delegated VP-HSE responsibilities as capability and readiness develop.
Minimum Requirements
- A degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management, Risk Management, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong practical knowledge and application of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- A minimum of 10 years’ progressive HSE experience, including significant senior leadership roles.
- Extensive experience within mining, minerals processing, engineering, construction, EPCM, or EPC environments.
- Proven ability to manage HSE across complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong expertise in Material Risk and Critical Control Management.
- Experience in serious incident investigations, HSE audits, and assurance programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to engage directly with clients and senior executives.
- Practical experience with digital HSE or safety management systems.
- Experience developing HSE standards, procedures, governance frameworks, and integrated management systems.
Highly Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in HSE, Risk, Engineering, Business Management, or a related discipline.
- Recognised professional HSE certification or professional registration.
- ISO management system auditor or lead auditor training.
- Formal incident investigation qualification.
- Previous regional, multi-project, or enterprise-level HSE leadership experience.
- Experience operating across multiple jurisdictions, including Africa and international project environments.
