CORE PURPOSE OF JOB


The purpose of the job is to deliver and align internal communication content and campaigns that support institutional priorities, enhance engagement, and build an informed and connected university community.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1.Daily Internal Communication Delivery
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily sourcing, writing, editing, production and publication of internalcommunication content across the University's communication platforms. This includes sourcing of appropriate images toaccompany publications. The role is central to ensuring that staff and students receive timely, accurate and engaging informationthat supports institutional alignment, transparency and informed participation.
2.Internal Event Communication
The incumbent will coordinate communication in support of institutional events by compiling and publishing event informationacross internal communication platforms. The role includes preparing regular digest-style event communications, engagingorganisers to source event content, and promoting participation in institutional activities. This function contributes to increasedawareness, attendance and engagement with the University's internal events programme.
3.Institutional Publications
The successful candidate will lead the planning, development, writing, editing and production of a range of internal communicationpublications throughout the academic year. These include, but are not limited to, the Pulse Newsletter, Foundations and Futures,Staff and Student Awards Booklet, Wall Planners, the Vice-Chancellor's Year-End Slideshow, Graduation publications and otherstrategic publications. The role supports the documentation and celebration of institutional achievements while strengtheninginstitutional identity and ensuring alignment with the University's annual academic and operational calendar.
4.Recognition and Stakeholder Communication Support
The incumbent will provide editorial and communication support for institutional recognition initiatives and stakeholder-focusedcommunication projects. Responsibilities include preparing content for long service recognition, retiree acknowledgements, Vice-Chancellor's Awards and other institutional celebrations, coordinating translation of communication material into approvedinstitutional languages, and providing editing support across the Division for Communication and Marketing. The role ensuresinclusive, accurate and professionally presented communication that reflects the University's values and commitment torecognising excellence.
5.Strategic Content Development and Stakeholder Engagement
The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic planning and coordination of internal communication by participating ineditorial planning processes, aligning communication products with institutional priorities and campaigns, and collaborating acrossportfolios to ensure consistency of messaging. The role also involves identifying and developing compelling stories that showcasethe achievements, experiences and contributions of staff and students, thereby strengthening institutional culture, supportingstrategic objectives and enhancing Nelson Mandela University's reputation.

REQUIREMENTS
•M + 3 qualification in communication, journalism, public relations, or related field.
•Minimum of 4 years working experience in a corporate communication or public relations or journalism environment, preferably with a focus on internal communication withdigital communication

SCREENING QUESTIONS
•Do you hold an M+3 qualification (NQF Level 6 or equivalent) in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies or a related field?

•Do you have at least three (3) years' experience in internal communication, corporate communication or a related communication environment?

•Do you have experience writing, editing and publishing content for digital communication platforms, newsletters, intranet or institutional websites?
•Do you have experience coordinating communication with multiple stakeholders and managing content within prescribed deadlines?
•Are you proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and communication or publishing tools, including content management systems (CMS), email communication platforms and graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite or Canva)?
