DRA Projects is looking for an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join its engineering team in Woodmead.

The role will support concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, EPCM and EPC projects, with a strong focus on electrical power systems design, analysis and implementation across local and international projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform detailed electrical power systems designs.

  • Conduct power system studies including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, network stability, power factor correction and harmonics.

  • Carry out protection studies, design and implementation.

  • Provide technical input into studies and proposals.

  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering and drafting teams.

  • Review vendor, contractor and consultant design information.

  • Provide engineering support to site teams.

  • Support procurement package management.

  • Participate in site installation, testing and commissioning.

  • Manage red-line drawings, documentation and handover.

  • Support local and international project implementation activities.

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or BTech in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years’ power systems industry experience.

  • 5+ years’ experience in protection studies and implementation.

  • Strong experience in load flow and short circuit studies.

  • Experience with large motor start-up studies and network stability analysis.

  • Experience with power factor correction and harmonics.

  • Energy management experience.

  • Secondary injection testing experience.

  • Site installation and commissioning experience.

  • General generator knowledge.

  • ETAP and/or DIgSILENT experience.

  • Protection relay experience.

  • General PLC programming experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of high and medium voltage power systems.

  • Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist registration would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will be technically strong in power systems engineering, comfortable working within multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM project teams and able to support projects from engineering studies and design through procurement, site installation and commissioning.
