Job Description
The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of the organisation’s SQL database environments within the banking and finance sector. The role ensures the availability, integrity and security of critical data systems, optimising performance and supporting business continuity. This position requires close collaboration with IT teams to deliver database solutions that meet operational and compliance requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Incident support (Defect/Requests-Fixing and testing) related to Supported Databases.
- On-Call support for Supported Databases.
- Enhancements for the backlog items specifically for the databases in the scope above.
- Prioritization/Re-prioritization for any ticket would be proposed.
- Experience in working in an agile team where deliverables will be managed in agile sprint cycles process.
- Take part in stand-up and sprint review meetings to provide update on WIP (Work in progress) items.
- Unit test fixes done in the test environment.
- For data fixes, log calls and will seek necessary approvals from IT and business heads and execute the scripts for data fixes.
- Achieve deliverables as per the agreed timeframe however in cases where the dependencies lie outside the scope
Required Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in database administration or Microsoft SQL Server is highly desirable.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database architecture, administration and maintenance.
- Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimisation and indexing strategies.
- Experience with backup and recovery techniques, including point-in-time recovery.
- Understanding of database security principles and implementation in compliance with industry regulations.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or T-SQL for automation purposes.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar certification.
- Experience with cloud-based database services and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to the banking and finance industry.
- Familiarity with other database platforms and data warehousing concepts.
