Job Title: Cane Quality and Logistics Controller  

Grade: C4

Reports To: Extension Manager

Main Purpose of the job:

Cane quality is a critical aspect of the sugar making process. Key to the cane quality is burn harvest to crush delay (BHTCD). Typically the lower the BHTCD the better is the cane quality.Felixton (FX) mill receives cane from SSGs in the Makhathini flats which is circa 250km away.

 

Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships

  • Co-ordinate cane supply from Makhathini to Felixton Mill thus reducing BHTCD.
  • Monitor and influence all cane quality variables.
  • Engage with SSG Extension Team at Makhathini on cane stock availability.
  • Engage with all relevant stakeholders regarding congestion and gaps at the mill.
  • Communicate to Felixton mill and Makhathini SSG Extension Team daily on mill crushing rates.
  • Track and trend cane quality and provide weekly/monthly reports.
  • Find solutions to problems within the control of the local stakeholders.
  • Escalate all unsolvable challenges to the Extension Manager 

Qualifications & Experience:

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Agricultural Management or equivalent and a Senior Certificate in Sugarcane from SASRI.
  • Between 3 to 5 years’ experience in sugarcane farming practices and logistics
  • Computer skills/literacy.
  • A valid Code EB driver’s license
