Job Title:Mechanical Fitter – Felixton Mill

Level: C2

Reports To: Mechanical Foreman

Tongaat Hulett Limited has a proud 132-year history and a strong socio-economic legacy in KwaZulu-Natal province, in South Africa, and into sub-Saharan Africa. Technical operations include the following: -

 Three Sugar Manufacturing mills situated on along the North coast of Kwa Zulu Natal stretching from Tongaat through to Empangeni.

A sugar Refining operations based in South Coast Road Durban

An animal feeds manufacturing plant situated in Tongaat alongside the Maidstone Sugar Mill.

A technical operations support comprising technical specialists who provide high level support to the operations both in South Africa and foreign operations.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Matric or equivalent and Trade Tested Fitter
  • At least three years mechanical fitting experience in heavy industrial environment. Knowledge of Front-End equipment(dewatering mills & carriers) will be advantageous
  • Attention to detail, good communication skills, able to work without supervision.

Main purpose of the job

  • Perform maintenance duties.
  • Repair and maintain conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, pipping, valves, timing couplings and pulleys etc.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings of plant equipment
  • Ensure lubrication of all equipment in the area is performed to standard as plan.
  • Inspect and replace defective vee belts on all drives
  • Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices
  • Ensure equipment cleanliness is in line with the “5S” standard for any completed job
  • Carry out overhaul of equipment as and when required by Supervisor’s instruction
  • Execute work for stop day, shut down and off-crop maintenance activities on the plant equipment and carry out the maintenance timeously without delay to production.
  • Perform stand by duties as and when required
