Role summary An experienced AB Initio Developer will design, develop, test and support scalable, high‑performance data integration solutions using AB Initio product suite (GDE, Co>Operating System, EME, Data Profiler etc.). The role requires deep technical expertise in parallel processing and ETL architecture, solid SQL and data modelling skills, and the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and data engineers to deliver reliable data pipelines and integration patterns for analytics, reporting and downstream systems. Core responsibilities Design and develop AB Initio graphs and reusable components to extract, transform and load data from a variety of sources (RDBMS, mainframes, flat files, APIs, messaging systems). Optimise AB Initio graphs for parallelism, resource utilisation, memory and I/O performance; implement partitioning, sort/merge, blocking and buffering patterns. Use Enterprise Meta>Environment (EME) and Co>Operating facilities to manage metadata, deployments and runtime operations; configure scheduling and provenance. Implement data quality checks, profiling and cleansing using AB Initio Data Profiler and in‑graph transformations; integrate with data quality frameworks. Build interfaces to target platforms (e.g. data warehouse, data lake, cloud storage), including bulk loads and CDC patterns. Create and maintain technical design documents, runbooks and support procedures; ensure observability and alerting for production jobs. Participate in code reviews, peer mentoring and establishment of best practice standards, naming conventions and reusable component libraries. Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents; carry out root cause analysis and apply permanent fixes. Collaborate with architects, DBAs, data scientists and business analysts to translate requirements into robust integration designs. Ensure compliance with security, data governance, and regulatory requirements (encryption, PII handling, access controls). Required technical skills & experience Strong hands‑on experience (typically 3+ years for mid, 6+ years for senior) developing AB Initio solutions including GDE, Co>Operating, EME and Data Profiler. Proven ability to design and tune parallel ETL pipelines: partitioning strategies, resource tuning, and performance troubleshooting. Solid SQL expertise (tuning, window functions, query plans) and experience with at least one RDBMS (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, PostgreSQL). Good scripting skills (UNIX shell, Bash, Python or Perl) for automation, job orchestration and support. Familiarity with source systems: mainframe (IMS/DB/DCB/VSAM), files, APIs, message queues (Kafka, MQ), and cloud object stores (S3, ADLS). Understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL patterns, slowly changing dimensions, and data modelling. Experience with version control (Git, SVN), CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Strong problem solving, debugging and root cause analysis skills. Good communication skills and experience working with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders. Desirable skills Experience integrating AB Initio with Big Data frameworks (Hadoop, Spark) or cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Knowledge of streaming data patterns and message brokers (Kafka). Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for modern deployment patterns. Experience with unit testing frameworks for ETL and automated regression testing. AB Initio certification or vendor training. Experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare) and knowledge of data governance/compliance.
