Job Description
The Inventory Controller is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, ensuring the availability of goods and supplies essential to the operation of the travel and hospitality services. This role involves monitoring stock movements, coordinating with suppliers, conducting regular stock audits, and implementing effective inventory control procedures to minimise losses and optimise stock levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records using designated systems and manual logs where necessary.
- Monitor stock levels daily to ensure sufficient supply of products, equipment, and materials required for operational activities.
- Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile discrepancies promptly.
- Coordinate the receipt, storage, and distribution of inventory items in line with company policies and health and safety regulations.
- Analyse inventory data to forecast demand and recommend order quantities to minimise overstocking or stockouts.
- Liaise with suppliers and procurement teams to arrange timely delivery of goods and resolve any supply chain issues.
- Implement and maintain effective stock control procedures to reduce waste, damage, and theft.
- Prepare reports on inventory status, stock movement trends, and variances for management review.
- Ensure compliance with relevant company policies and industry standards related to inventory management.
- Support operational teams by providing accurate inventory information to facilitate smooth service delivery.
Required Qualifications and Education
- Minimum of a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
- Additional certification in inventory management, supply chain, or logistics is advantageous.
Experience
- At least two years of experience in inventory control or stock management, preferably within the travel, leisure, tourism, or hospitality sectors.
- Experience working with inventory management systems and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills with keen attention to detail.
- Good numerical ability and analytical skills to interpret inventory data effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with suppliers and internal departments.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards related to storage and handling of inventory items.
- Problem-solving skills to address stock discrepancies and supply challenges promptly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in supply chain management or logistics.
- Experience with specialised inventory software used within the hospitality or tourism industries.
- Understanding of procurement processes and vendor management.
Working Conditions
- The role is based in Mpumalanga, Ehlanzeni District, Hazyview, requiring presence at the operational site.
- Full-time hours are expected, with the possibility of occasional weekend or public holiday work depending on operational needs.
- The role involves regular physical activity including lifting, carrying, and moving stock items as necessary.
