CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

|
To provide and deliver effective information service and training at all Nelson Mandela University campus libraries and Information and Knowledge Commons in the Library.
|
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
|
- Monitor and oversee the Information and Research Commons Section.
- To deliver bibliographic information, research support and training services to diverse users to meet their information and research requirements via telephone, on-sight and online.
- To monitor and oversee the first-floor facilities for teaching, learning and research of the campus library.
- To assist in collection development, innovative problem solving, administration and functioning of the section.
- To manage and oversee the Course Reserve Collection by liaising/collaborating with campus-based academics/faculties.
- To communicate and promote information resources to enable all users to locate and effectively manage information for life-long learning.

- Working knowledge of the structure, organization and understanding of internal/external changes in academic environment.
- In depth knowledge of the Institutional, LIS and departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal, innovative, relationship building skills in providing bibliographic information to diverse users for excellent customer service.
- Advanced teaching skills to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner to groups or in a one-on-one situation.
- Presentation and public speaking skills to communicate effectively to multicultural/diverse users.
- Ability to work in a collaborative academic environment and participate in team development efforts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to excellent customer service.
- Working knowledge of the MS Suite to assist in the revision and updating of the information services policies and procedures as required.

REQUIREMENTS
|
|
|
Candidates must possess M + 3 appropriate qualification, 3 - 5 years’ experience preferably in an academic library.
