We are seeking a reliable and technically proficient Workshop Supervisor to lead our in-house repair and inventory operations, supporting a national network of LED screens and digital place-based signage installations. This role involves overseeing component-level diagnostics and repairs, managing workshop personnel and stock systems, and coordinating the distribution of technical parts to internal teams and job sites. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in electronics or AV, paired with proven experience in workshop or inventory management. A valid South African driver’s licence is essential for occasional site visits, urgent deliveries, and warehouse transfers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop & Repair Operations
- Supervise daily workshop activities, including diagnostics, component repair, soldering, calibration, and refurbishment.
- Manage repair processes for LED displays, control systems, power modules, and associated digital signage hardware.
- Ensure all repairs comply with safety, functional, and visual quality standards.
- Monitor service level agreement (SLA) adherence to guarantee repairs are completed within agreed turnaround times.
2. Parts & Spares Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate, real-time inventory records of components, tools, consumables, and replacement parts.
- Track critical spare parts levels and manage reordering to prevent operational downtime.
- Oversee receiving, inspection, labelling, and cataloguing of incoming stock in line with company and vendor standards.
3. Logistics & Distribution
- Coordinate and monitor the despatch of repaired parts and stocked items to field teams and installation sites.
- Ensure secure and accurate packaging, labelling, and transportation of technical equipment.
- Maintain detailed delivery records to ensure full traceability of components.
4. Team & Facility Management
- Lead and support a team of workshop technicians and technical assistants.
- Allocate tasks and delegate repair jobs based on team capacity and priority.
- Enforce safety protocols, tool maintenance, electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions, and workshop cleanliness.
- Ensure regular servicing and calibration of tools and instruments.
5. Cross-Department Collaboration
- Liaise with:
- Technical Managers regarding fault trends, repair feasibility, and replacement advice.
- Installation and Scheduling Managers to align part availability with site rollouts and urgent repairs.
- IT Teams on hardware compatibility and firmware/software integration.
- Digital Studio concerning campaign-impacting hardware dependencies or delays.
- Provide feedback on recurring component failures and propose long-term preventive solutions.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Valid South African driver’s licence (Code B or higher).
- National Diploma or Technical Certificate in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, AV Technology, or a related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in technical repair, workshop, or hardware maintenance environments.
- Proven experience supervising a technical, repair, or inventory team.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical expertise in fault diagnosis, component replacement, and calibration.
- Practical experience with LED modules, control cards, media players, and power circuitry.
- Proficiency with Google Sheets, Excel, and digital stock management systems.
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and multitasking abilities.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Effective leadership, planning, and staff supervision capabilities.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience within the Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) or digital signage sectors.
- Working knowledge of LED display technologies, data and power cabling, and display control systems.
- Familiarity with ESD precautions, IPC soldering standards, and the use of oscilloscopes or test equipment.
