Job Description
The French Mixologist is responsible for crafting a wide range of beverages with a particular emphasis on French-inspired cocktails and drinks. This role requires creativity, precision, and excellent customer service skills to enhance guests’ experience within a hospitality setting. The role is based in Central Africa and involves working full-time hours in a fast-paced environment that caters to an international clientele.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of cocktails and beverages inspired by French traditions and techniques, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of classic and contemporary French drink recipes and continuously update the menu offerings.
- Engage with guests to recommend drinks, explain ingredients, and create personalised experiences.
- Manage bar inventory, including ordering supplies and monitoring stock levels to avoid shortages and waste.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the bar area.
- Train and mentor junior bar staff on French mixology techniques and customer service standards.
- Collaborate with the wider hospitality team to ensure seamless service delivery and guest satisfaction.
- Stay informed about trends in the beverage industry, particularly relating to French and international drinks culture.
- Handle cash and payment transactions accurately and securely.
Required Qualifications
- Fluent proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written.
- Formal certification or training in mixology, bartending, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of French beverage culture, including wines, spirits, and cocktail preparation.
Education
- Minimum of a secondary education certificate or equivalent.
- Additional qualifications in hospitality or culinary arts are advantageous.
Experience
- At least three years’ experience working as a mixologist or bartender, preferably in an environment with French influences.
- Experience working within the travel, leisure, tourism or hospitality sectors is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in customer service and guest engagement.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent knowledge of cocktail recipes, techniques, and presentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with guests from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
- Proficient in stock management and basic financial transactions.
- Creative flair and passion for mixology trends and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an international or luxury hospitality environment.
- Additional language skills relevant to the region or international guests.
- First aid certification or other health and safety qualifications.
Working Conditions
- Full-time role with variable shift patterns, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
- Work is primarily performed in a bar or lounge environment within a hospitality venue.
- Exposure to busy and dynamic service periods requiring stamina and resilience.
- Location based in Central Africa, Congo, which may involve adapting to local climate and cultural conditions.
