Job Title: Junior Mining Engineer

Location: Woodmead

 

Primary Purpose (Role):

To provide technical and engineering support to mining projects, working closely with senior engineers and project teams to ensure the successful planning, design, and execution of innovative solutions within the mining sector.

Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities):

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to assist in the development, implementation, and optimisation of mining projects.
  • Collect and analyse geological and engineering data to support project assessments and informed decision-making.
  • Participate in the design and planning of mining operations, including pit design, mine planning, and infrastructure development.
  • Utilise specialised software tools to create models and simulations for mining operations, resource estimation, and mineral processing.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards throughout mining operations.
  • Assist in estimating project costs and developing cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate project progress and findings effectively.
  • Occasionally participate in site visits and fieldwork to gather data, monitor operations, and assess project progress.
  • Stay current with industry best practises, innovations, and emerging technologies in mining engineering.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (Essential)
  • Professional membership (Advantageous)

 

Experience:

  • Proficiency in mining software and tools, with 1 to 3 years’ experience (Essential)
  • Understanding of safety and environmental regulations in mining, with 1 to 3 years’ experience (Essential)

 

Knowledge Areas:

  • Familiarity with mine design packages such as Surpac, Xpac, Whittle, Studio 5 Planner (Essential)
  • Strong understanding of mining methods, geology, surveying, ventilation, rock engineering, and project management, preferably within coal mining (Essential)
