Assistant Safety and Security Manager

Newlands, Cape Town

As Assistant Safety and Security Manager, youwillprovide the highest level of hospitality standards, with thorough knowledge of security operations and health and safety legislation, as well as operational, systems, and technology expertise.

Assisting in maintaining health, safety, and security compliance throughout the property, you will plan and coordinate security activities to safeguard company assets, employees, guests or others against risks. Aside from this, you will supervise internal security staff and outsource contracts and manage investigations to a conclusion. Part of your role will be to liaise with local authorities in respect to legal compliance, day-to-day operations with emphasis on security and patrols, as well as training and facilitation of contractors, employees and visitors’ induction and safety file audits.

You have Grade A and are in good standing with PSIRA, with relevant safety & security qualifications, and at least 4-6 years’ experience in a similar position managing a team of security professionals. You can maintain strict confidentiality when handling security matters, investigations, guest information, and internal operational procedures, with sound knowledge of fire safety measures, detection and suppression systems, firefighting equipment, and early warning alarm systems, and strong incident management, investigation, and report writing skills.

Along with the above, you have experience in the hospitality industry, with knowledge of security-related procedures, equipment, control rooms, access systems, panic alarms, electric fencing, fire alarms, CCTV, and other related security systems, as well as detailed knowledge of CCTV systems and their use in managing security risks. You can analyse processes & identify deficiencies/vulnerabilities and have working knowledge of Workman’s Compensation / IOD processes, as well as near-misses and basic knowledge of civil / criminal laws, with good working knowledge of security procedures and practices, as well as relevant health and safety regulations.

You must be physically fit and able to perform regular patrols across the property with the ability to walk long distances and patrol multiple floors, including frequent use of staircases and to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts, as well as to lift and move moderately heavy items when required (e.g., safety equipment, barricades, or emergency equipment). You must be able to respond quickly to incidents or emergencies across the property and be able to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and after-hours when operationally required.
