Head of Treasury
Role Purpose
The Head of Treasury will lead the Group’s treasury strategy and operations for the beverages business,
ensuring optimal liquidity, funding, risk management, working capital efficiency, and multi-bank relationship
management. The role is responsible for cash flow management, forex hedging, fundraising, Accounts
Receivable / overdue management, and asset–liability alignment to support sustainable business growth and
capital planning.
Key Responsibilities
Banking Relationship Management
Build and sustain multiple banking relationships across South Africa and other operating regions.
Manage bank negotiations, facility renewals, pricing, margins, and service level agreements.
Ensure diversification of banking partners to reduce concentration risk.
Conduct periodic bank performance reviews and benchmarking.
Fundraising Through Banks
Lead fundraising activities including working capital lines, term loans, revolving credit facilities, capex
loans, and structured financing instruments.
Develop funding strategies aligned to business expansion, capex plans, and corporate structure.
Evaluate financing options to achieve optimal cost of capital and balanced funding mix.
Oversee financial covenant compliance, headroom monitoring, and reporting.
Day-to-Day Cash Flow Management
Own the daily cash flow management process, ensuring liquidity availability across all legal entities.
Monitor cash positions on a daily basis, manage pooling/sweeping structures, and ensure smooth daily
operations.
Oversee 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts, proactively highlighting risks and mitigation actions.
Implement strong controls over payments, bank reconciliations, and cash governance.
Forex Hedging
Manage the company’s foreign exchange exposure, including import payables, export receivables,
intercompany flows, and capex commitments.
Execute hedging strategies (forwards, swaps, options) aligned to risk appetite and treasury policy.
Work closely with Procurement and Commercial teams to forecast foreign currency requirements.
Ensure robust IFRS 9 hedge accounting documentation, effectiveness testing, and compliance.
Working Capital Follow-Ups: Accounts Receivable & Vendor Payments
Partner with the Accounts Receivable team to monitor overdue customer balances and ensure timely
collections.
Drive a culture of cash discipline across commercial teams and route-to-market structures.
Ensure timely payments to suppliers and service providers, balancing business continuity and cash
optimization.
Liaise with the Procurement and Operations teams to improve DPO and negotiate optimal payment
terms.
Asset–Liability Management (ALM)
Ensure proper matching of funding tenures:
o Short-term facilities for working capital
o Long-term facilities for capex and long-term investments
Monitor interest rate risk, refinancing risk, and liquidity headroom.
Recommend ideal capital structure based on business cycles, risk profile, and investment strategy.
Oversee long-term debt planning, repayments, and refinancing execution.
Additional Responsibilities
Oversee treasury controls, governance, and compliance with SARB exchange control regulations.
Manage counterparty risk, bank limits, and treasury-related policies.
Ensure appropriate risk management frameworks, including fraud prevention and payment security.
Lead treasury technology initiatives including TMS, bank integration, and automation of treasury
processes.
Provide treasury insights to the CFO and EXCO to support strategic and operational decision-making.
Required Qualifications
Chartered Accountant [CA(SA)] – Mandatory
Postgraduate certifications in Treasury, Risk, or Corporate Finance advantageous.
Required Work Experience
15+ years of progressive Treasury experience in Beverages and/or FMCG companies.
Proven expertise in liquid funds management, forex hedging, cash forecasting, and bank financing.
Demonstrated success in managing multiple bank relationships and negotiating banking facilities.
Experience across South African and African markets is an advantage.
