CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide a secretarial, financial and logistical support service for the Innovation Office
|
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
|
The Innovation Office at the Nelson Mandela University is responsible for the identification, protection, and management of the Nelson Mandela University’s intellectual property (IP). The Innovation Office manages a number of projects and is involved in spin-off and start-up companies. The Secretary for the Innovation Office will form a key part of the team responsible for secretarial, financial, and logistical support for the office. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Secretarial and administrative support
- Contracts filing and information management
- Patents filing and IP register management
- Budgeting and financial administration
- Assist Nelson Mandela University spin off companies with administrative tasks

- Able to work with academics, professional support staff and students from a wide range of disciplines

- Budgeting and financial management skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks given by different people and to prioritise tasks
- Understanding of the basic patenting process and key milestones for patent applications
- Experience in event management and logistics for meetings, workshops and seminars
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Be customer focussed, discrete and recognise confidential information with integrity
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good public relations skills
DESIRABLE ADDITIONAL QUALITIES:
- Trustworthy and able to work without daily supervision; excellent team work ethic; values honesty, integrity and transparency.
- Excellent knowledge and several years of experience working with an enterprise resource planning system, preferably the ITS Integrator system
- A degree or diploma in a relevant area will be an advantage but is not a requirement
