IT Technical Team Lead — In-House Infrastructure & Networking Expert
R30 000 - R40 000
We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on IT Technical Team Lead who excels in internal infrastructure builds, troubleshooting, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will have direct, recent experience managing, implementing, and supporting ALL key systems in-house—without reliance on external service providers for core infrastructure, firewalls, or networking.
Key Requirements
Technical Leadership & Escalation
- Act as the Tier 2/3 escalation point for all complex infrastructure, cloud, networking, and application issues.
- Demonstrate hands-on, start-to-finish technical problem-solving, root cause analysis, and prevention of repeat incidents.
- Proactively implement and manage system monitoring tools and performance tuning.
Mentorship & Documentation
- Mentor and upskill IT staff through active coaching, workshops, and peer knowledge sharing.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, internal documentation, technical diagrams, and a robust knowledge base.
In-House Network & Infrastructure Management
- Directly support and administer LAN/WAN networking, VLAN design, VPNs, and firewalls (configuration, management, and troubleshooting—no outsourcing).
- Manage and optimise Windows Server environments, Active Directory, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and backup solutions.
- Maintain infrastructure uptime through hands-on preventative maintenance and rapid incident resolution.
Microsoft 365 & VoIP Expertise
- Own the management and troubleshooting of Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive (from admin portals to technical support).
- Full hands-on support for VoIP systems (SIP, PBX platforms, Teams Calling)—including configuration and issue resolution.
- Automate routine tasks using scripting tools such as PowerShell.
Project Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead or contribute to in-house infrastructure projects, upgrades, and migrations with clearly defined deliverables and timelines.
- Identify and implement automation to streamline operations and improve ticket resolution time.
- Provide technical guidance for procurement, system design, and architectural improvements.
Compliance & Security
- Support IT compliance (e.g., audits, patching, regulatory remediation), ensuring robust security (identity/access controls, backup policies).
- Maintain and improve security standards and processes directly.
Collaboration & Communication
- Align system policies and technical approaches with business needs through effective, clear cross-functional communication.
- Confidently interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years’ direct hands-on IT infrastructure, networking, and systems administration experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and troubleshoot all aspects of infrastructure in-house (no reliance on MSPs).
- Deep expertise with current technologies—networking (Cisco, Fortinet, MikroTik, etc.), virtualization platforms, Microsoft 365, backup, VoIP, automation.
- Proven track record in leading technical teams and being the in-house escalation point.
- Excellent analytical, process improvement, and communication skills.
- Certifications (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, MCSA/MCSE, VMware, ITIL, etc.) are strongly preferred but practical, demonstrable expertise is essential.
Critical Success Factors
- Candidates must be able to describe hands-on solutions in technical interviews.
- Answers should show direct responsibility and technical troubleshooting from start to finish.
- Do NOT submit candidates whose primary approach is “I call my MSP/service provider” for key infrastructure or network tasks.
- Candidates should be eager and able to keep up-to-date with evolving technologies and best-practices in-house.
