Summary
The Group Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy, compliance, and integrity of the group’s financial reporting. This role leads group consolidations, supports audit readiness, governs accounting policy and interpretations (e.g. IFRS), and partners with business unit finance leads to ensure consistency in application. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a forward-thinking mindset and is passionate about enabling scalable, compliant finance processes.
What to Expect:
Financial Reporting & Consolidation
- Lead the preparation of monthly group consolidations, including intercompany eliminations and equity-accounted investments
- Draft consolidated annual financial statements (AFS) in accordance with IFRS and group standards
- Own the integrity and governance of the group chart of accounts and financial statement mapping
Technical Accounting & Policy
- Maintain and enforce group accounting policies, ensuring consistent application across BUs
- Provide technical guidance and write position papers for complex transactions (e.g. fair value, revenue recognition, financial instruments, IFRS 9)
- Monitor emerging accounting standards and assess their impact on the group
Audit, Compliance & Control
- Own the technical deliverables for external audits, including coordination of documentation across business units
- Partner with the Senior FM and BU FMs to ensure timely audit completion and clean audit outcomes
- Review reconciliations and journals with a focus on technical correctness and compliance
Finance Process Improvement
- Identify and drive improvements in consolidation, reporting, and control processes (with a focus on automation and scalability)
- Support projects involving new products, funds, or entities to ensure appropriate accounting setup
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with BU Financial Managers to resolve accounting issues and review submissions
- Provide technical support for budgeting, forecasting, and capital management processes (as needed)
- Assist the CFO in preparing technical commentary for board or regulatory reporting
What You'll Bring:
- BCom Honours or equivalent; CA(SA) strongly preferred
- 5–7 years post-articles experience, with strong exposure to IFRS
- Prior experience with consolidated group reporting
- Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in cloud-based finance systems advantageous
- Exposure to financial services, investment management, or fund structures preferred
