Job Duties:

The Systems Design Engineer must provide complete engineering solutions based on the EPLAN Design package to DRA. The candidate is an Electrical or Instrumentation engineer with experience obtained in process control and instrumentation as part of multi-disciplinary engineering project team environments in mining and minerals processing, water, wastewater, agriculture and other current emerging technologies. The candidate must have a good understanding or EPLAN and be able to navigate the inner workings of EPLAN to be able to provide custom solutions on projects

Key Performance Areas:

Technical

  • Ensure comprehensive EPLAN package set-up to DRA’s standard for effective use in the process and mining industry.
  • Main EPLAN architectural functions envisaged are:
    • Developing Instrument Loop Templates to DRA’s standard
    • Developing a library of symbols to DRA’s standard
    • Developing Electrical Schematic Templates to DRA’s standards
    • Writing scripts to indicate the correct core tags on various drawings
    • Modify existing EPLAN faceplates to adhere to the DRA standard
    • Implement design capabilities in EPLAN from other sources.
  • Provide technical support to the team members in the EC&I department.
  • Ensure that the EPLAN modifications and designs are carried out in accordance with DRA/Client standards and that all modifications are well documented.
  • Ensure the effective (peer) review and approval of the modifications and designs.
  • Ensure continuous improvement, lessons learnt, value engineering, fit for purpose and latest technologies are implemented.
  • Interface with internal and external design and drafting disciplines.

Operational

  • Attend team meetings as requested.
  • Drive innovation and optimisation.
  • Working collaboratively with design and project engineers within the EC&I department.
  • Ensure that reports are structured, accurate, complete and well presented.
  • Display proactive communication with project team with respect to discipline interface and problem solving.
  • Ensure proper change management procedure is adhered to.
  • Providing advice and consultancy support.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Ensure that interactions with all Stakeholders are conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ensures that the relevant stakeholders are kept informed and up to date on status of technical developments.
  • Ensures that DRA remains the Clients engineering service provider of choice.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Electronic or Electrical Engineering (essential)

Membership:

  • Professional Registration / Eligible for Professional Registration (advantageous)

Experience:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the following aspects of electrical and instrument engineering:
    • Instrument selection
    • Instrument bus systems
    • Instrument wiring systems
    • Loop drawings
    • Electrical Schematics
    • MCC Designs
    • Lighting and Small Power Designs
    • MV Schematic Designs (essential)
  • 5-10 years+ working within an EPCM / Mining environment (essential)
  • 3+ years EPLAN experience (essential)

Knowledge Areas:

  • Understanding of the EPCM project cycle (essential)
  • MS Office advanced proficiency – Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe (essential)
  • Worked with instrumentation design packages – Dessoft, Comos etc. (essential)
  • Worked with the EPLAN design package and have a good understanding of the structure of the package (essential)
  • Software development (advantageous)
