Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Matric with Relevant Tertiary Production Management qualification.
  • Managerial Development qualification/ Diploma
  • At least 5- 8 years Managerial experience in the manufacturing.
  • Computer Skills/Literacy
  • A valid Driver’s license  

Context/Scope:

The incumbent will take overall responsibility in the Design, Maintain and Integrate the Process Control Systems in the Process Area/s to Support Achievement of Process Quality, Speed, Cost and Production Targets

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that sufficient resources are available to meet production requirements including raw materials, manpower and production capacity and puts into place action plans where deficiencies are detected between production requirements and capacity to produce.
  • Planning and organising production schedules
  • Ensure that all inputs into production are provided for so that production requirement targets are met as per short, medium and long-term plans
    • Ensure that plant is available for planned maintenance in consultation with the Engineering department
    • Ensure that coordinators or line managers deliver their tasks as per set Performance standard
    • Very good knowledge of the different raw materials used in the production of animal feeds.
    • Able to operate and interpret the different plant process control systems and software - ABB.
    • Good understanding and knowledge of the process flow within a manufacturing plant whilst producing at a minimum wastage
    • Experience in raw material and inventory control.
    • Management and ownership of quality control within the production plants at Voermol
    • Understanding of SHEQ Systems and Procedures and ensure compliance to OSH Act. 

Dimensions:

(a) Financial

  • Manage head count costs effectively in the production plants including overtime costs
  • Ensure overtime is approved before hand
  • Controls and manage production budget
  • Control consumption of consumables within production

(b) Market Complexity

  • This role must have the ability to supply the sales team and the market with the feed as the market requires and just in time.
  • Always ensure that Voermol production is of a superior quality in order to remain in the up market

(c) Leadership 

  • Ability to plan production and ensure efficiencies through labour and machine utilisation.
  • Optimising product quality and minimising rejects.

 

Purpose of Role:

To manage the functional activities of the, production at Supplementary Feed, Driers, Feed mill and Block Plant, in a cost effective and efficient manner in order to achieve weekly and monthly production plan, with emphasis on production quality 

Key Job Function: 

Production Management

  • Manage the day to day running of the production function. This is achieved by ensuring the optimisation of Voermol manufacturing in line with set targets through responsible management and optimisation of resources and raw materials
  • Conduct business risk assessments related to all aspects of the operation – people, processes and equipment
  • Prepare and present performance to senior management by investigating issues and share recommendations / actions
  • Manage production and raw materials variances to minimize loses in the production lines
  • Manage bags weights variances and ensure there is no over /under packing of product

Planning & Scheduling

  • Interpret the plans in terms of the plant’s overall needs
  • Obtain feedback from Process Leaders and Maintenance on constraints and adjustments to be taken into account.
  • Influence, challenge and query priorities based on throughput targets 

Continuous Improvement Projects 

  • Identify and initiate projects
  • Champion, drive and follow on projects
  • Monitor project progress, milestones and impact
  • Manage the change process as a result of the project

Safety, Health & Environment

  • Understanding of SHEQ systems and procedures and ensure compliance to OSH Act
  • Ownership and management of the risk associated with production, ensure no grade 1 findings.
  • Participate in safety meeting and provide feedback on area results and progress
  • Execute specific actions to address legal compliance requirements, e.g.  audit findings to non- conformances, maintenance of training records and skills matrix, checking and verifying training materials is up to date and relevant. etc.

People Engagement, Management & Development

  • Interact, provide and/ or clarifying instructions and work procedures in relation to the Production and, checks the implementation and/ or execution of responsibilities
  • Monitors conduct, performance and implements corrective measures to align behaviours and activities
  • Participate in the recruitment process to enable proper identification and appointment of key skills to specific roles within the Department.
  • Identifying training needs and proposing specific training interventions to improve skills and capabilities; Performance Management System applications, conducting performance review sessions with the production coordinators.
